Plot Summary

Chakuro is the 14-year-old archivist of the Mud Whale, a nigh-utopian island that floats across the surface of an endless sea of sand. Nine in ten of the inhabitants of the Mud Whale have been blessed and cursed with the ability to use saimia, special powers that doom them to an early death.

Chakuro and his friends have stumbled across other islands, but they have never met, seen, or even heard of a human who wasn't from their own. One day, Chakuro visits an island as large as the Mud Whale and meets a girl who will change his destiny.

Netflix has this show right?

Time to wait for fansubs.

*sigh*

This one is on Netflix, and of course they don't do simulcasts. It's a lost opportunity for them as by doing that they will get us to stay subscribed rather than just doing so one month every three. Anyway, I'll sample it on the dark side, but it's pretty unlikely I'll watch it until it goes up on Netflix.

The first fansub has hit the waters; or the sands, in this case.

Edit:

Also by the way fluidized sand is a real thing, it's just not known to occur naturally.

Cool science trivia: http://nerdist.com/sand-fluid-air-bubble-fluidized-bed/

Edit: I guess I'm assuming it's dry quicksand, it could also be the normal kind if it's wet.

Yeah shoujo art style tend to often feminize a lot, but I don't mind :).

I just finished watching the fan sub, great series so far, I read the manga and have high expectation for the series, lets just hope they dont fuck it up!

Episode 1

Wow, I love the visual style of this show. Very aesthetic and pleasing to the eye.
Well done JC Staff.

The show also has a colorful cast and setting. Chakuro is an interesting character so far as well. The world building of this show looks really well crafted with the refreshing feel. Saimia is a deadly ability that I have no doubt will be a recurring element in this show.

Good episode. Rikosu is a mysterous character, hope we find out more about her. I think this is set for 12 episodes? Hope that's enough to make the story flow well.

I don't get why this is labeled as a shoujo.

*Sees Ouni's design*

Oh. So that's why...

The amount of world building done in just 1 episode combined with the nice art style made this really enjoyable. From the conversation with the elders, I'm guessing that the reason they live on the mud whale is because something happened to civilization a long time ago and Lykos is an example of what humans outside of the mud whale are normally like.

Lykos is the new Reg I'm also gettting a Shinsekai yori vibe. The lack of their society's history and the elders who seem to know more than they lead on...I don't trust them.

Beautiful to watch. I too was gonna wait for Netflix, but I don't think that's gonna happen anymore.

Life span seems brutally short? Did you catch if the people born without a saimia(power) still die young?

They said unmarked people (those without the power) live normal lifespans, which is why the council is made up of only the unmarked. Only Marked people die young.

Really interesting one here. Sad that it won't get many eyeballs on it due to the people showing it. It does have a little bit of that Made In Abyss vibe but feels a little more grown up in it's characters and style. Definitely going to be watching this one moving forward. It's really early, but this could easily end up in the running for best of season.
