I almost found this episode an illustration in the various ways people can be nihilistic. From the apathetic, through angry, to morally self-justifying, the whole emotional spectrum was there. But I wonder if there's a something to be garnered from the fact that both Chakuro and Ouni in the end decided to act to protect and preserve, and it is only the elders who are so certain that they are morally justified in their decision that they would condemn everyone to death without a fight or even informing others of their decision.

I suspect that even at the very end those elders weren't telling all the facts or giving the real reason why they wanted to suicide. Whatever the people of the Mud Whale are supposedly guilty of, in reality can any beside the council who know of the past actually be considered guilty? Not that it will make any difference to the attackers. But it does make the council doubly guilty for choosing to keep the people ignorant when they need to understand the situation. Knowing human nature the elders are most likely keeping silent not for the best of reasons.

Chakuro really knows how to get on Ginshu onee-sama's good side easily.

I'm guessing that thing at the bottom of the Mud Whale is like the one at Lykos' island that takes people's hearts.

Episode 5

This episode's theme seems to be hope.

It's a way of building up events and what the Empire may likely do next as well as their reasons to sink the Mud Whale. Glad to see Lykos on board with her new friends now.

Suou as the new chieftan gives me mixed thoughts but at least he has the support of his people so far. Lykos will probably play an important role in the upcoming battle if I had to guess.

is it just me or the show is getting worst? this ep was not more than fine. the first part felt rushed and just wasn't that interesting while the second (when lykos is in the hospital) started better as we get world building and then got worst again. it is still interesting but not as much as in the first few ep. the one thing I think this show is good at is it's unique art style which is the main reason I will stick with this show.

I liked the episode- lots of answers to my questions and finally the people of the Mud Whale are united and have a glimmer of hope. Not sure what they can accomplish in 4 days of prep before the Empire attacks again but they have some strong marked ones and the girl with wings not sure her power but she seems on another level of conscious

How was the first part rushed? Sorry, I haven't read the manga this far so I'm curious.

This episode gave me rather mixed feelings. For two reasons; the first concerns Chakuro and the other the background story to what is going on. As to Chakuro, after making up his mind to preserve the Mud Whale, fighting and facing danger to get to the very heart of the ship he just stands by for the longest time and lets the council shoot at the nous. He only steps in when Lykos is shot and tells them to stop, even though it is clear that he understands that shooting the nous will sink the ship. So that long hesitation bothers me.

Second, though it was nice to get the backstory of the people of Mud Whale vs. those of the Empire (and it was something like I suspected) it doesn't really explain why they are trying to kill them. I mean either the Empire knows existence on the Mud Whale isn't really an insane hell, or they wouldn't worry about their enemies finding them so much. Their enemies can just as well find one of their other ships and take over any of those nous while they are cruising about looking for the Mud Whale. Especially if those enemies aren't looking for the Mud Whale but are looking for Imperial ships. So as Suou said, there is probably more to that story.

I haven't red the manga either but the pacing was too quick. in 6 minutes we get from what is this thing? to shoot it! and finally the let's not shoot it and let it absorb the girl t fix itself. it felt rush to me and like they could have spent more time instead of going at this high pace.

Nice episode lots of training for the kids to get ready to fight. Curious about the twins with wings when she flew away looked like a whale silhouette in the distance huge back story there maybe?
Next episode the mud whale will never be the same, I like a plan to sink the other mud island will see if its to ambitious?
All the religious customs and celebrations make this show special in the creative sense.

I actually didn't like the couple of last ep as much as the first but this one was just fantastic. the pace felt natural and it was just the speed to go with the ep. we got some more character development and some new mystery. the first few moments took me by surprise as I was sure lykos (they got to find her a different name) was gonna get bullied and then it was so lovely to see her accepted and taken care of. the character development for ouni was good and the plot is steady. the art is staying with high quality and I really appreciate that sort of things. overall reallt great ep and the show is good as well.

This episode had all the great story-telling just like the first. I just found it amazing how much they managed to cover in one episode again, and without it seeming forced or unnatural in any way. It was also a very bitter-sweet episode as they not only were about to face a battle for survival, but had to change from a very peaceful society to one that was willing to fight in order to survive. I look forward to seeing how their boarding mission goes, as with this story I'll take nothing as a given.

Wow, episode 7 is brutal and this seems to be just the beginning of the bloodshed.

I wonder why exactly Ryodari is so violent and heartless though. He pretty much killed two characters this episode without a second thought and even laughed about it. Also, I don't trust Shuan much. He is just too hard to read at this point of the story.

Loved the insert song they used this week.

that ep confirmed a few things I already suspected (or almost confirmed). firstly, most of them are going to die just as we saw and I don't really give a crap for any character except ginshu. secondly, ouni and shuan emotions have been devoured by the nous. it was pretty obvious. I wonder why the mud whale people have stronger thymia, but it's probably because falania is devouring some of their feelings (they weren't allow to cry so it probably has something to do with that) and giving them more thymia. pretty good show but I just cant feel the characters and the plot is a bit interesting but not that good. best things about the show are the art, world building, and the soundtracks (awesome op, awesome song this week).

Big reveal the people of Mud Whale have stronger Thymia than the attackers which helps but fighting guns not easy and they went right into trap. I thought for sure Nibi was a death flag but fingers crossed he survived the episode. Elder Hakuji died saving 3 children so he was cool in the end. I worried about Sous the Chieftain he doesn't have the killer instinct which is probably good during peace times but not during war.
The episode set up an epic battle-Eye patch versus Pink hair see how that unfolds next week. The difference between the people is huge- cold hearted killers against children with emotions and adults scared and defenseless. I cant figure out girl with wings she is the Trump card some how?
