I love the emotional intensity of this story. But there are times where I get slightly annoyed. With Pink haired guy, who while crazy extreme, unbalanced and emotionally stunted, is not unemotional. Rather he seems to take a great deal of joy and pleasure in the suffering and death of others. Also for Chakuro to stop up and start asking why they have to do this at that point seems simplistic and stupid. I could understand if he had done so before they left or after they came back (hopefully they do) when he has time and a moment to spare for philosophical musings of that sort. But to ask why they must defend themselves against being attacked while being attacked just seemed silly to me. Does Chakuro understand that Skylos and those of the Empire mean to kill everyone on Mud Whale and not leave any survivors? So as I said I can understand him wondering why things have to be this way, but not right then.

Was good to see my Avatar bite the whale dust
Things are being explained but I cant tell if true or just another sides perspective. I still cant figure the tie in with Neri and the role she is playing?

So the Mud Whale won out but at cost. But what the nous of Skylos, and the Empire for that matter, want and are all about now seems all the more murky to me. It was almost as if the Skylos nous had tempted them with a choice, and approved of Chakuro's refusal. Nor did she seem to care much about the fate of the Skylos ship or those aboard. The whole of the conversation was about her becoming the nous for the people of the Mud Whale, was it instead or as well as for for those of Skylos? With the ship falling apart at that time one would assume instead.

that was a good ep. this show is actually quite good. I am really interested in the world as it seems complicated and it's simply fascinating.

Man, this series truly has some of the best visual for this season.

I have mixed thoughts on the new people introduced...one of the guys (I think the one with the long hair) is such a weirdo.

Also, Ryodari is back?! Really...? I was hoping he'd disappear forever in this anime.

I have to agree with Stark. This was not my favorite episode. Ryodari should have stayed dead, especially as they gave no real explanation of how he supposedly survived, when others can't even survive the distance in the air in a ship. Until now the anime has avoided cheap plot shots of that kind, but this one really felt like he was just conveniently brought back to life because as a character I guess someone must have thought he had appeal. I wonder if Ryodari is also brought back to life in the manga?

While it was nice to meet someone else besides the Empire, they seemed to be more a ship of fools. Hard to take this bunch seriously as the great threat to the Empire. They were just your typical comical relief. And then the guy with jesters...please! How much more anime villain can one get.

So did this anime save all the tropes and clichés for one episode and then see how many they could fit in?

I thought Jesters for the ruler was bizarre but original. Another ship shows up but is no match for the Mud Whale the big deal that was revealed is Mud Whale has new creature who can give the island ship helm control which it never had so they can actually have a heading and course!

Ryodari defniitely has gone crazy.....wow.

Anyways, the show is over and it felt like it was missing a lot for the story. It felt incomplete and these last few episodes have been a really mixed bag. Honestly, I think the show started off well but didn't really manage to capitalize on its characters and story all the way. I wanted to learn more about them.

As for the world setting, it's one of my favorites this season along with Girl's Last Tour.

A generous 6/10. I like shoujo fantasy adventure shows like this but they could of done a lot more...

Bit of a rough one here. There really is so much to like about this show and so many elements that easily place it among the best of the season, but it just didn't really completely come together in the end. The show had a near perfect start but there was just too much content jammed in for a single season of anime. I have no idea what the source manga is like but they could have literally filled several novels with just the story elements in this season alone. It really just resulted in the show sort of collapsing in on itself. Some plot points and characters had relatively too much screen time and development, and some were breezed through without anywhere near enough focus (or explanation). Too many characters and concepts were introduced to do many of them justice or even to develop interest. Not surprisingly, the season ended with no actual conclusiveness at all.

I would still recommend a watch for the world building and visuals alone, as well as some really nice music, but I couldn't recommend it without serious caveats.

It was a pretty mixed show imho. I do recommend it to people though. A lot to like here. It's a mixed bag. Kind of like Jelly Belly jellybeans. Some parts are delicious, others make you want to spit it out right away.
