Plot Summary

"Wake Up, Girls!" is the story of growth and friendship of seven girls living in Sendai, Miyagi who form the idol group "Wake Up, Girls! (WUG)" and work together to become top idols.

Operating under a small production company in Sendai known as "Green Leaves Entertainment," WUG overcame countless obstacles to beat national idol group "I-1 club" at the Idol Festival and win the event. They had suddenly become top idols... but with an idol recession going on, things weren't so easy. The days of steady and honest idol work continued for the girls.

That was fine, I guess. I mean, I have no connection to these characters as this was the first I watched of them so my perspective is likely different but it just felt like the entire thing lacked energy. Plus, the music and performances just weren't all that great either.

I should of rewatched first season, because I forgot a majority of what happen with this series, also there was two movies before this season. All I remember was getting pissed when Yoppi cut her hair and I do actually like this show take on the idol industry. Two issues, I'm not a fan of the new look, it looks really cheap. Don't get me wrong the original also looks cheap, but it has some type of charm to it. This just looks bland and cheap plus the original didn't have CG performances (I think, I'm not 100% sure). Also Yamakan isn't directing this season, so lets see how this new director is.

Episode 1

After winning the 2015 Idol Festival WUG became top idols, but than lost the following year to I-1. Things have not be that great for them as they hardly have jobs and their tv show was canceled. They aren't the only ones having problems as even I-1 has had to close some of there theaters. We are introduced to Hayashi Ayumi, Morishima Otome, and Atsugi Itsuka who want to become idols and are fans of WUG and I-1. The president gets them a job on Song Stage where they will perform with I-1 and other famous people. For this job they get new costumes as the one they have don't fit and have small tears. On the train Yoshiko gives the girls scrunchies she made from their old costumes and that they should wear them for the show. This later causes a problem when Airi forgets her scrunchie in the dresser room and goes back to get it delaying there entrance. She makes it back in time and they perform and everything turned out well for them but I-1 leader is mad about this. In the end the president plans a tour so that the girls can get recognize more.

I recently finished the first season, rewatched. Good staff. I'm going to need some time to get used to this new animation. Still, it was nice to hear some older songs from previous season. So far, good start.

Man, this show has some weird pacing.

Just random comedy and food shenanigans this week....sigh. I hope it gets better but I'm really underwhelmed.

Episode 2

The president has all the girls move in together as it will make easier for them to get to the office and practice. She also gets Minami and Kaya on some eating shows to promote them. On the first show Minami does her usual way of liking something but it does work out, so Kata steps it up by eating the whole meal by herself as calories are nothing to an idol. She soon regrets this as they appear on more shows and she starts gaining weight because of it. She even starts hiding that she's eating less and practices more to lose the weight she gained. The girls find out about her problem and tell her it's not alright for her to skip meals and decides to eat again. Now that Minami and Kaya are doing there thing with the show next up is Miyu, Nanami and Yoshino.

That was an okay episode, just the stranded weight gain ordeal.

I have to agree. The first season didn't have that but this, well it feels like watching WUG! mixed with Teekyu. Odd choice, i know but couldn't describe with anything else.

Well the show is being made by Millenpensee, the studio that took over doing Teekyuu from MAPPA.

Now you know how the show is without the original creator running it.

Still I like the realism to this series compared to Love Live!(almost total fantasy) or Idol [email protected](a little more realistic but the instant fortunes after a few concerts throws me). Plus, both shows completely changed out their casts after a couple years.

It'll be interesting to see how they work in the 3 new cast additions to the Green Leaves agency.

I have enjoyed Wake Up Girls in the past, but I must admit that Episode 3 was a lot like watching the variety show segment of AKB0048 second season

Episode 3

The president got Miyu and Nanami on a show and Yoshino as a model shoot. When it comes time for the show Miyu and Nanami are nervous and bomb at the show. Yoshino who's done model jobs before is confident about the shoot until the camera tells her to act more like an idol and also does a poor job. Airi also gets a job on a tv show where she has segment to herself and does an okay job but could do better. Once the girls are done with work they talk about what they can do to improve at their job and the answer was to be themselves. Airi back on the tv show brings her shark mask and everyone at first found it weird but after seeing how well she did don't mind it. Minami on the food show instead of just saying her catch phrase sings it instead something that audience liked and Yoshino accidentally trips on her photo shoot and after seeing her expression likes it so much he makes her follow that rhythm. Nanami wanting to do something with music is told by the president to try out for a musical and does but doesn't get the part. She doesn't mind not getting it because at least she tried and went up against pro's. Finally when it comes to Mayu she get a part in a tv drama along with someone from I-1.
