Do they even exist these days, or is it a product from the 90's? Maybe it's just because I'm old but I don't really appreciate high scool romances anymore. Yuri on Ice was nice to watch because they were all adults and it felt genuine, but aside from that I haven't found a lot of romance shows on here.

The main character in Gate is a working adult in the military http://www.crunchyroll.com/gate

Evidently The Ancient Magus' Bride has a main character who is ..... ancient http://www.crunchyroll.com/the-ancient-magus-bride

The main characters in Ai Yori Aoshi are all at least college students and at the end (in the manga) they get get married http://www.crunchyroll.com/ai-yori-aoshi

The main characters in Golden Time are all college students also http://www.crunchyroll.com/golden-time

Crunchyroll has a number of drama shows also that are about adults. I liked No Dropping out http://www.crunchyroll.com/no-dropping-out-back-to-school-at-35-

Nodame Cantible http://www.crunchyroll.com/nodame-cantabile-drama At the end of the broadcast version the MC's get married and make beautiful music together (There are more videos in the series that aren't posted on Crunchyroll

200 Pound Beauty http://www.crunchyroll.com/200-pound-beauty

Hero is good http://www.crunchyroll.com/hero2014

Space Brothers is about adults, but aside from a crush that the MC has for a fellow (lady) astronaut it doesn't have much romance

Library War is in a (strange) military setting, but has a strong romantic element.

I Can't Understand What my Husband is Saying is about a married couple.

Servant x Service is about civil servants.

GTO is about a high school teacher

Rakugo, although there's a lengthy flashback to childhood.

The Devil is a Part-Timer is more Com than Rom, but mostly features adults.

The Perfect Insider is more Mystery, but features grad students and up.

Elegant Yokai features college students.

There are a few as they mentioned above. Still its not just the age of the characters that makes a mature romance. There are a few "high school" themed romance shows that actually have a much more mature romance with themes that are inline with people of any age.

Easiest way is to click "quote"

Indeed. I didn't mention March Comes in Like a Lion because it's about a (occasional) high school student. (Also, any romantic elements are heavily overshadowed, at least first season.) That said, it's a much more "mature" story than many of the above.

Didn't think to look up there, the CR forum is a bit inconvenient.

Well even if there are some rare exceptions it doesn't change the fact that they're just kids. Kids and romance don't really go hand in hand.

I get where you're coming from. The gold standard will always be Maison Ikkoku for me - but now even Kyoko and Godai are kids in my eyes. lol

There are some newer ones like Orange and Convenience Store Boyfriends that feel more mature even though it's still high school. Might want to check those out.

And even though it's more slice-of-life than romance, Sweetness and Lightning has some seemingly more mature characters that you find yourself pulling for in a hopeful future romantic sort of way.
