why does every show ever made have a Christmas episode?
screw the other months and holidays, why is christmas so damn special?
chances are its not christmas in real life so its very out of place, its dumb and needs to die

Most shows have Christmas, Halloween and New Year's Episodes not just Christmas episodes. Some even add in Thanksgiving and Hanukkah episodes although they tend to be a bit more rare. I find, at least to me, they add to the immersion/realism of the show despite not always being on at the right time in the real world. It used to be said Christmas was a religious holiday so it shouldn't be in TV Show but somewhere over the decades Christmas lost that religious context and became about "merchandising". It became more a business holiday than a religious one. This is where we stand now. There are some holiday eps I honestly could never do without though ...

Christmas - All Married with Children and Simpson's Christmas eps
Thanksgiving - WKRP in Cincinatti's Turkey Giveaway ep
New Year's - X-Files' /Millennium crossover episode (the Millennium finale)
