Haven't gone to LED yet, our "green" town still has a market for those curly poisonous mercury ones--
Are LED's safer to dispose of?

Yep. No mercury or particularly nasty chemicals. LEDs can go in regular trash, though I believe some recyclers will also take them.

I hated CFLs, and made the switch entirely to LED as soon as they became available. I have some of the first generation Philips LEDs, which cost around $20/bulb even after a hefty state rebate, but none of them have burnt out even after having been used for thousands of hours.

The price has come way down, on the other hand, some of the cheaper LED bulbs have only lasted a year or two. Buyer beware if you get super cheap bulbs, I've had bad luck with Cree, and several no-name brands.

most of these LEDS have 3-5 year free replacement warranty.. You can just return them to the stores if they burned out within that time frame. I bought about 40+ LEDs (all from Costco) 2-3 years ago, no burn out yet. I didn't have to change my bulbs in the motion sensor fixtures since the switch either.

i guess the only downside of LEDs would be the blue light effect

2 year.. the LEDs at costco only have 2 year warranty.. but it's costco.. so if they died after 4-5 years.. i'm sure you can return the whole box to them for a full refund if you want We probably don't need to worry about lighting for the next 10-15 years. I'm not sure if they will come out with anything that will be more efficient than LEDs..

I have to upgrade a lot of stuff.. the AC is the one that is using a lot of electricity in this house during the summer months.. but upgrading them will the most efficient ones will cost 8-10 grands..

if it wasn't for the generator situation I'd still be using this 90s light bulb my dad gave me, however it couldn't handle the stress of it. but I tend to just use the old fashioned light bulbs, I don't believe the "green energy" agenda and use what I like and gives me light and don't have to wait a few minutes for the bulb to warm up to give me light. don't know the whole name of bulbs, but I use Halogen Light Bulbs myself, that's all I know of them. I can buy four for like 4 bucks at walmart.
