Well, Halo ended up becoming an anime. Of course, Halo is quite popular around the world, so that's the exception to the rule. Nevertheless, the popularity just isn't there, and not to mention keeping the FPS nature inside the anime means a MC who is seemingly irrelevant while the supporting cast gets all the attention. Anyway, it's all a matter of cultural preference as over in Japan, animators realize just how niche the FPS fandom is.

My ideal FPS anime would be a sports anime. That is, we follow a team of FPS players working together to play against numerous opposing teams in tournaments, similar to what we're getting with esports leagues featuring games like Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, and Overwatch.

Hmmm, now, would they be trapped in this world, like, they're the players battling for their survival, or would it be following a team of E-Sports FPS players playing these games?

Mostly the latter. I honestly don't know how the "trapped in the video game" angle would work.

I think FPS genre would be be something akin to a Twitch account. Fun for lil kids to watch for 20 min and then you want to do it yourself. Also in the worlds current climate characters killing each other for the sake of sport isn't terribly popular. In the case of Esports.... then the FPS genre goes completely out the door as you would probably see little or no game play as its not entertaining. Rather it would be a slice of life anime since it would be about the day to day life of the group/team/player. FPS just isn't commercially viable in a lot of ways.

Were there any I missed? If not, then why are there so few FPS anime?

The closest thing that comes to mind is Btooom! (which isn't on CR, but can be found on HIDIVE and Hulu).

http://www.crunchyroll.com/btooom

It is on CR. You must not have checked the series page, I remember it because it came out right after the 1st season of SAO. Makes me believe in a tin foil hat conspiracy there is some collaboration between anime studios as you see several very similar theme series in the same year following one another.

I kind of liked Btoom but it didn't really go anywhere, seemed more like a survival series like the movie series The Hunger Games where they fight to the survive over a plot like SAO where they fight to live to the end (aka only one player will win in Btoom vs SAO its just get to the last level and defeat the boss player). Another similar series to Btoom is Gantz but the plot was really weird.

You are correct. For some reason I thought it came out after Sentai and CR parted ways, and I didn't double check my info as I usually do (except to verify it was on both other services mentioned).

I know the Halo series is an FPS, but I think that you have to look at it as a series as a whole. There is so much story in the universe, and the game was originally heavily campaign oriented, too. I mean, now it feels more like COD so I don't play it anymore, but I think of it as the exception, or outlier in regards to FPS for good anime/show/story games. So agreed

MMOs or JRPGS generally, but not always, have deeper and more intriguing storylines, because they are meant to be played at a slower pace. FPS are fast-paced and, thus, do now allow as much time for story immersion. Also, the FPS is, but it's definition, a single character game, at least for the stand-alone single player story-modes, which actually deal with the story. MMOs and JRPGs are group-based, making them better suited to an anime. And, as other have pointed, out, you can't really do a first-person-based camera angle for an entire series, or it would get old REALLY fast, which would defeat the purpose of doing an FPS-based anime.
