I have been wanting to watch this anime for a while. I hope that Madman adds this to AnimeLab. Oddly enough, however, they appear to only have the rights for the second season and on DVD only. Is this a normal occurrence?

Thank God.

I joined CR Premium in the first place so I could watch this. I was really bummed when it got pulled from the catalog. BUT... with the CR/Funi partnership, AND the VRV catalog having the dubbed version on Funi's channel, I held out hope that it might be back. I tried to watch the dubbed version, but omg no.

Here's hoping we get Nyoron Churuya-San too!

EDIT: And since people keep bringing up the Endless Eight, let me say that these are terrible entertainment. They are, however, absolutely brilliant if you have spent enough time in or around film school. If you think they're awful, that probably means you are a normal human being who has not been hopelessly ruined by learning how they make the sausage.

The license Funimation took out probably does not read "Nordic Countries", but "Scandinavia". By general definition Finland is not part of Scandinavia, so it's also not part of the license.

It may well not be "by general definition" ... the license may have an appendix that specifies which countries are in which "region" as used in the licensing terms. For licensors that license by region, that avoids legal risks of later conflicting claims.

Clearly, however, Japanese licensors were not in the habit of thinking of Finland as part of a common region with Norway and Sweden, and it has been negotiations from Crunchyroll to get it included that has led to so many Crunchyroll simulcasts including Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland as a block (often but not invariably including Iceland).

For these Funimation licenses, at the time they were signed, Funimation basically hadn't had any market experience streaming for Scandinavia, and probably didn't realize that they should have been asking for Finland as well.

I liked them well enough, but I cheated ... rather than watching the Endless Eight, I watched the Terrible Trio ... the first two to get a flavor of what was going on, then jump to the eighth of the group.

Eight really was overkill ... if they wanted to play that game, they could have gone with the inFinite Five and then moved on.

Is this the result of the "Nordics" survey you did a while back in May? (that also somehow included Netherlands?)
Either way, thank you! Catalog titles in Northern Europe usually don't happen.

Edit: ok, so it looks like we also got some shows 6 days ago, I guess I'll start checking catalog title announcements more often now.

Ah yes, the series I loved season 1 of, but dropped in season 2... Well maybe at least with the CR Queue I can finally get through Endless Eight without thinking "was this the episode I need to watch next, or the one I just watched" and "did I skip an episode by mistake, I'm not sure". Because that's why I dropped it, I literally couldn't keep track. I actually like the idea of Endless Eight, but the execution was a bit boring. Though I do feel bad I never saw what happened after.

I didn't even like the arc after it either, it's full of Haruhi being unusually cruel to Mikuru. But if you haven't seen The Disappearance movie, that's a must-watch. It's not legitimately available to stream anywhere, though. (For those who insist on legal means but don't want to buy it, Netflix mail-in disc rental might be an option, if available wherever you are.) https://myanimelist.net/anime/7311/Suzumiya_Haruhi_no_Shoushitsu

I watched Endless Eight over several months and alternated between sub and dub to break up the monotony a little. I really recommend you just watch the start and end, unless you see it as an anime rite of passage. https://www.japanator.com/yamakan-didn-t-like-endless-eight-either-offers-apology-10607.phtml

Also, if you're up for what others call "a boring romance with a boring main character," there's the alternate world Nagato spinoff: /the-disappearance-of-nagato-yuki-chan It's my favorite part of the whole franchise. You need to see the movie first to understand why Nagato is the way she is in it, though.

Yeah I've brought up this before with people. EE is actual intriguing art but horrible entertainment. Its pretty much the exact opposite of most pop entertainment. I've heard people say EE is lazy, which is laughable to me considering that your average anime has more reused animation in a recap than this arc has in the entire run. I mean for absolutely nothing changing episode to episode on a macro level, the micro details are different every damn time.

I think the entire point of the run was for you to be almost as miserably bored as a viewer as Yuki is in the show. It gets the job done. Goal achieved. Its just not particularly fun to watch. I am glad though that i suffered through it at least once though, as I think just hearing about it loses some of the nuance that it contains on a more abstract level.

waw, Lucky Star and Suzumiya. Good stuff.

Had an itch for Lucky Star a while back, could have sworn CR had it but was let down. Glad to see you guys pick it up.

If you're a fan of anime, CR is the place to be. THEE "Netflix" of anime.

Nice for Lucky Star! Now we need Funi to get us back Gosick since that’s been gone from CR for several years, and maybe even Hyouka! I’d like to be optimistic and hope for Nichijou, but the fact that it’s not even stream on Funi’s site makes me think they only have home video rights
