Xi Jiping joins the exclusive club with the only two other former Chinese leaders written in the constitution, Mao Zedong, and Deng Xiaoping. Xi is currently ranked on many news outlets as the most powerful man on Earth. Xi proclaimed "A new era for China" earlier this week, launching anti-corruption campaigns, funding renewable energy programs, and waves upon waves of political reforms.

Is Xi Jiping good or bad for China? Let me know what you all think.

seems like just one more communist douche who is out to control the people with just the right amount of fear. Mao destroyed China, now only a shell remains. it was better off under an emperor than what they are trapped with now. not to offend China, the people can't help their leader, like any country, to me he seems like just one more bad apple for China.

Just as long as he strikes back and bans Transformers, Pirates and Tom Cruise movies from theaters over there, it'll be something.

It important to point out that a lot of Western experts thought that China could liberalized like Taiwan or South Korea. Xi is doing the complete opposite and pushing for more censorship and aggressive policies. Xi is trying to make China more like what it was during Mao. This is bad news for China and its people.

Bait cover aside, here's the actual article:

https://www.economist.com/news/leaders/21730144-do-not-expect-mr-xi-change-china-or-world-better-xi-jinping-has-more-clout

Naming him the World's Most Powerful Man(tm) isn't the point of the article though. Even if the magazine cover is provocative.

Said article is a far more interesting topic of discussion than the op, however. Given that one of the many criticisms leveled at Trump is that he's freely giving up America's position as leader of the world. Which allows another emerging power to easily step into the vacuum.

" ..launching anti-corruption campaigns, funding renewable energy programs, and waves upon waves of political reforms"

those are some serious changes

anti corruption ? good luck

renewable energy programs? where people and companies are dumping wastes in the river ? Good luck

political reforms? like turning into a democracy where people have a voice ? able to protest against the government ? or just the same old way of eliminate the competition and shut up all voice of opposition ? good luck

People who dare to criticize/oppose the government of communist countries tend to disappear for some unknown reasons.. If you are pretty vocal about it, at least put GPS chip in your body (hard to find place). I think we can find your body shortly after you were reported missing.

If you live in cities with a larger population of Asians, you probably see these protests? Despite coming from communist countries, the Chinese and Vietnamese don't really like each other They will only protest in the USA never in Vietnam or China .
