In a typical super robot anime, battles are less determined by the skills of the pilot, and more by the physics-defying powers of the mecha themselves. Real robot anime, being more grounded in reality, instead determine their battles by the strength and skills of the pilot, rather than just the power of the mecha alone.

But in my opinion, that mostly applies to Super Prototypes and Ace Customs, the solo units. What people tend to overlook, though, is that for armies of mass-production models to fight at their peak capacity, they need skilled and experienced commanding officers to make full use of them.

So why is it that, when discussing real robot anime, people overlook the commanding officers and instead focus more on the pilots? People talked a lot about the main-protagonist of Code Geass, Lelouch vi Britannia, and he made for a better CO than pilot, compared to characters like Suzaku Kururugi and Kallen Kouzuki.

Problem: You're asking this on the CR Forums instead of at a place like MAHQ or SRWG. Not saying it's a bad question, and there are certainly a few mecha fans here, myself included, but, if you're looking for in-depth discussion of those issues, you're probably not going to find it here, I'm afraid.
