Well, The Testament of Sister New Devil has been released by Funimation today for Crunchyroll. And today, the dubbed version of the entire, first season is up on Funi's site...along with the First season's OVA.

All completely uncensored.

Meanwhile, the company which is the license holder, CR, only has the censored version of Season 1 up...and no OVA.

This is corporate inequality. Further, it's inequality between the dub and sub communities.

I hope this is something which will be corrected, and soon. I'm not holding my breath.

I will be super annoyed if CR doesn't add the uncensored + OVA when they are the master license for this

Doesn't VRV solve this.

With VRV, you can get crunchyroll, funimation, and plenty of streaming options tailored to your taste. Best of all, it's only an additional $3 from crunchyroll's subscription plan. That's less than a coffee a day with all the Anime you could ever want.

Anyways, Corporate Inequality. That sounds funny.

The Japanese Audio with English subtitled version would still be the censored version on VRV though

Although I suppose if you are having to read subtitles, how are you going to tell if the nips are covered or not?

Just kidding, the censoring in Testament of Sister New Devil nearly took up the entire screen

I plan on buying the series so I don't really care what CR does.

I've no problems with VRV, but there'd still be no uncensored subtitled version. Now, as much as I hate it, I can understand why we're stuck with censored versions of shows.

But not in this case: CR is the license holder! Funimation is putting out the DVD on behalf of CR. I can't figure out a case where CR would be able to give to it's publisher (and partner) greater streaming rights than CR possesses. It's just..weird.

Yeah I just noticed this as well. At least make the uncensored version available only for premium subscribers. C'mon CR.....

While the credits obviously show that CR is the license holder but one thing I noticed was it said English version done by Crunchyroll and produced by Kung Gao. Does this mean CR outsourced the dubbing and Funimation simply distributed it or did Funimation dub it themselves?

Dubbing was outsourced to Bang Zoom

It really makes no sense too me that CR would let Funi get the better version of their title first when CR needs uncensored episodes more.

I wouldn't either, as we never got home video (uncensored) versions of earlier shows that CR had the home video rights to (and licensed to Discotek) such as Strike the Blood and Recently, My Sister is Unusual.

The problem is twofold first being the fundamental concept of censorship. And why such backwards third world thinking is still allowed to exist in any modern society.

The second being all the licensing games that are being played between studios publishers and distribution services resulting in a hot mess. forget censored vs uncensored I have even seen some series where half the show is on one streaming service and the other half is licensed to a completely different service.

It would be awesome if they went to Funimation to get those dubbed and re-released too. Strike the Blood has a bunch of OVAs that I wish they could release in North America as well
