There's this girl in work who is really nice but she does not stop talking about herself and interrupts everyone all the time, and the staff break room is not pleasant when she is there. She's very loud too and attention seeking, I'd be in the middle of a story and she'd interrupt like "OH I DID THAT..." then continue to talk about her and by the time she's done the conversation has changed. Anyway I deal with it by nodding along but in my mind I'm smothering her with a bread roll...

Best thing to do in my opinion is to tell her off before it gets out of hand.

It's hard in a workplace since you don't want to ruffle any feathers. Best thing to do is ignore her and if that doesn't work respectfully tell her that she is being rude. If she just jumps into someone's conversation without being included, nothing wrong with letting her know about her rudeness. Just a thought.

I just pretend they don't exist or ignore them. It almost always works for me.

I have this similar situation. I tend to walk away when I can. If I'm being held hostage, ie it's not appropriate to leave, then I either stare blankly or act like I'm really into whatever is close by.

Point behind her and say 'what the hell is that?' and when she turns her back to look walk away.

Be honest, or be a dick. Depending on the work place. If you are planning to work there for a significant period of time, I would say add this to your itinerary.

I do a trick on plane or ear buds in my ears but just tucked into my pocket gives the illusion your listening to music most people will give you a pass

I hate people who interrupt, it's so annoying. The thing is they don't know that it's rude since most likely nobody has ever called them out on it. Next time that happens call them out. Say "Excuse me I was talking and you interrupted me." That will create tension in the room and take some balls on your part. But it's really the only way to deal with an "interrupter" beside ignoring them.

I also have to deal with "endless talkers" regularly. I try to avoid them as much as possible. But on occasion I get caught in their web. They're so difficult to walk away from because they don't take social cues. They typically talk about themselves, never asking you a question.. I'll have one foot out the door and they're still yammering on. If I absolutely have to talk to them I try to keep everything short and simple, yet that doesn't always do the trick. I try to pull myself away by glancing at a clock and say "Oh I gotta get back. Talk to ya later."

I feel ya OP. I deal with several of these people at work. You don't want to be rude which is the hardest part.

Well, I used to be like that, which is why I tend to be generous with people who are just enthusiastic. They probably don't know how people see them, which is reason to be sympathetic. There's a Henry James quote that I am fairly certain can be attributed to him and to no one else: "Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind."
