Episode 1

And so it begins with Tsumugi starting her career as a manager at her father's production company and she is given the daunting task of picking three idols out of seven seeing that Trigger is a three-man group. Tsumugi couldn't pick three, so she went with all seven making the cut and as it turns out, it is just a test to see if she is cut out to be the manager. And she passes seeing that the boys just don't perform as well without the whole gang.

Episode 2

It's time for Idolish7 to debut, and they do so in front of a sparse crowd as Tsumugi should have done more than just upload a website and distribute flyers. Nevertheless, the boys go all-out and impress the tiny crowd, while Trigger passed through hearing great potential out of those boys, though they don't know who they are as they only hear the music. Nevertheless, those boys sure are impressive. Pretty nice start here as I certainly like how Tsumugi is growing as a manager here and learning just how tough the business is. But she has what it takes to be one and this is a valuable lesson.

So far, I like what I'm seeing here, though whether it continues to maintain my interest or not moving forward remains to be seen.

Yeah, this. I'm... sort of annoyed about this whole convention thing in the first place, because the guests and events are pretty terrible, except for this and the FMA premier... but then Crunchy goes like, "Oops, did we say premier?" and posts it online?

Also, I'm wondering what the fans in Japan think about this. You know... the places where this is top 5, not... constantly trashed and unwanted like idol shows are in the West... for now...

That said... ehhh what is this.

I'm like 8 minutes in... French guy's accent is a bit better than the one from Starmyu, but the character's more annoying. Honestly, I'm sort of not interested in anyone but Iori, just because I'm in love with his voice actor. Also the bunny thing is... interesting.

I'll watch it, but I still don't see myself ever spending a ton of money on keychains of these guys, unless I'm really bored.

Edit:
24 minutes in, I guess this is episode 2 now.

This is a lot of telling us why we should love them, instead of just showing them being lovable.

French is an otaku, okay, sure.
Iori is still my favorite. Anime boy who likes stationery. Can we just... give him his own show?
the KENN character is actually really annoying. Oh, that's what that pudding thing is. Yeah, there's a ton of merchandise of that.

The more I watch of this, the more I like Iori and find everyone else annoying.

I'm... conflicted on glasses boy. I feel like I like him, but I also feel like I might just be projecting ideas from other glasses characters onto him, particularly Fushimi from K (and Akashi Kuniyuki from Touken Ranbu).

Edit: (part where they're all impressed by Riku's singing)
I'm sorry... what?

Like, he's not a bad singer. He has two duets with Shouta Aoi in Tsukiuta and pairs well enough with that amazing voice, so like, he's not bad. But he's also not great, and he's definitely not the best of this group... like, I feel like whenever shows point out which character is the best singer, they're always wrong. Like in Love Live, they said Maki was the best singer, but she totally wasn't (IMO Umi is the best).
Then again, on a recent fan poll (https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2017-10-31/fans-rank-favorite-japanese-voice-actor-singers/.123396), Eli's seiyuu and Yukari Tamura both ranked above Nana Mizuki and Umi's seiyuu, who are probably my favorite singers out of female seiyuu. On the male side, the only good singers they chose were Shouta Aoi and Soma Saito. A bunch more seiyuu who are notable as good singers were left off the list. (Kensho Ono didn't rank either, though).

So yeah.

Also, they have no sex appeal. He's not wearing a shirt at all and they still have no sex appeal, what is this? At least the anatomy is drawn better than, the rest of those shows. In half the shots, at least. Probably a matter of taste, though.

Oh, now we have the mean rivals, and mean rival company. Okay. .... why, though?

I dunno, this all just seems to sports-anime-like. Which is probably why it's popular.

^ Crunchyroll isn’t the only one streaming this. There was a preview event in Japan and they announced that the episodes will appear on streaming sites the next day. Crunchyroll just happened to be one of them and was able to sub and broadcast it to international fans. However I think there will still be some excitement watching this at a convention since it’s a whole different experience watching this with a crowd of other people who love the series, plus some anime staff will be attending too! Man, I wish I could go.

———

As for my thoughts on episodes 1 and 2: Ahhhhh I loved watching them! I’m glad that Crunchyroll was able to pick this up! I’m so happy to see the boys animated and have been waiting ever since I started the game almost 2 years ago. I also can’t believe this anime will have 17 episodes instead of the usual 12. I feel like they’re spoiling us fans with all this content lol

Plot:
They faithfully followed the game story like I thought they would and with the side stories animated as well. Tsumugi was handled wonderfully and you can see what a hardworking girl she is. We are introduced to all the boys and see the formation of their idol group as well as their first concert. I love the small scenes with Trigger and screamed out of happiness when I saw them theyremybias. I heard from the interviews with the staff that this anime will be handled more like a sports anime rather than an otome which I’m glad because that’s more fitting to how the story really is. Get ready for a whirlwind of emotions!

Music:
I recognized the BGM from the game at the beginning and I see that they added in new ones as well. I hope in future episodes they will mix in the game BGM with some new ones. Ahh Monster Generation, the iconic song of the series. Even though I heard it so many times I got excited listening to it in the anime.

Animation:
As expected of Troyca, the animation felt very fluid. Like that basketball scene at the beginning, wow! I was a bit surprised that they used CGI for the background sometimes. If I have to be nitpicky though, their faces seem to be a bit off sometimes in the second episode. As for the dancing, unfortunately I cannot say I’m totally happy with it. I’m a bit picky with CGI dancing and hard to impress and the only ones that have impressed me so far have been Tsukiuta and IDOLiSH7’s Restart Pointer music video (of course because it was animated by Kamikaze Douga lol). The animation for their closeups was super good though, it’s just the contrast between hand drawn animation and CGI can be a bit jarring.

Overall, I loved watching these episodes as a game fan! I can’t wait to see more of the series when it officially broadcasts in January. Thank you Crunchyroll for picking up this amazing series!

I was gonna stay up until 4am to watch this last night but I kinda fell asleep haha. I'm probably gonna scream for a bit so please pass on by if you wish.

First of all, I just wanted to say thank you so, so much to Crunchyroll for getting this! This is probably the anime I'm looking forward to the most next season and aaah I don't think I can describe how happy I am that you've got it (especially with the early premiere).
It feels like it's been so long since this was announced, and now that it's finally here, it kinda doesn't feel real, lol.

Anyway, this was great! They're faithfully adapting the game's story, and it's moving at a good pace, too. All of the characters got enough screen time so you know at least a bit about them (trust me, all of them are a lot more complex than they look). They also hinted a few things about some of the characters pasts (*cough* *cough* Riku *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough* Yamato *cough* *cough*).
I'll be honest, when I first started playing the game, I didn't really think the story was anything amazing for an idol game, but the further I got into, the more I realised what I gem this was; the 'story' part of most idol games aren't usually too plot heavy (it's more slice-of-life) and while they do add to the development of the character, most of it is very casual. This might be all well and good for games like Love Live!, King of Prism, or Utapri, which probably have a large existing fanbase, (most of whom discovered the series before the game was release), for original games, it kinda makes the characters seem a bit one-note? That's how it seems to me, anyway; most of the idol games I've dropped were due the fact that the characters weren't really anything special or new (though they are quite popular). Idolish7 actually has a very engaging plot, which can leave you hanging and make you painfully wait for the next chapter (it's not really episodic like other idol games), and while the plot does have flaws (I won't mention them because they're spoiler heavy), I still love it for actually trying something different. I also love how this series doesn't really beat around the bush with how tough the idol industry can be, unlike 80% of idol shows.

Also, TSUMUGI. I love Tsumugi, I really do (I seem to have a thing for characters called Tsumugi). Yes, she seems like your typical otome protagonist at first, but her growth as their manager is amazing. Her primary role is to support the boys, though, and they don't really flirt with her/ hit on her too much (apart from Nagi because y'know, he likes pretty girls). Can I just mention how much I love her character design? The 'protagonist' in any sort of idol game doesn't usually get a face in-game (because a lot of them are self-inserts), and if you've ever played an otome game, most heroines usually have a generic 'look', and aren't usually distinguishable. How rare is it that we get a protagonist with such an eye-catching design?

The one complaint I had about the story in the game is that since they use partially animated sprites (as in it's animated when they talk/change position) is that a lot of the facial expressions weren't really conveyed too well; they anime did a really good job with they're facial expressions though!

Speaking of art and animation, THE CHARACTER DESIGNS ARE AMAZING. I know that they were done by Arina Tanemura, who did the original character designs for the game (she's also a shoujo manga author with a kind of 'typical' shoujo art style, but the Idolish7 designs are far from that). And I SO SO happy that they transitioned really well into an animated form!!! The animation for the most part was smooth and honestly, the CG wasn't that bad, imo (the dance sequences didn't even look like CG half of the time). I've only seen a couple of anime done by Troyca (Aldnoah:Zero & Sakurako-san) but they both had very good animation.
Ngl when they started playing Monster Generation I was so happy??? It's probably my favorite song in the entire series, and even though I expected it I just kinda got really excited!!!

AND BEST BOY APPEARED EVEN IF IT WAS FOR ONLY LIKE 20 SECONDS

I LOVE RYUUNOSUKE TSUNASHI SO MUCH I CANT EVEN DESCRIBE HOW MUCH HE IS BEAUTIFUL
(I actually like Idolish7 more as a group but I am fucking obsessed with Ryuu I can't even remember when I loved a male character this much lmao (forget about Itaru Chigasaki))

It's kinda strange that this will have that this'll have 17 episodes though? I mean I know this series likes the number 7 (the cutoffs for rankings in the game as well as rewards are usually 7777 or something with the digit 7). Will only 2 air next season, with the rest of then streaming online, like with this season's Dies Irae?

Anyway, this was a good as I expected it to be, overall! Can't wait until January!! 2018 is looking to be a good year for anime indeed.

(It's 3 in the morning I think I've incoherently rambled for long enough).

Promising first two episodes. The low turnout must have been rough, but the staff and Idolish7 powered on. This concert will likely stick to those nine non-staff attendees. Of course, I'm hoping that the next concerts have more success. While they must have lost a bit of money from this concert, I think Tsumugi and group learned a lot from this experience.

What's intrigued me the most in this show is Tsumugi. Through these two episodes, she felt as prominent as the entire Idolish7 group. That makes for an interesting dynamic that's not used as much in other idol shows. She reminded me a bit of the Producer from [email protected] Cinderella Girls.

I am so excited about this! I was just talking to a friend about how I hoped Crunchyroll would get IDOLiSH7 and I'm so glad that came true!!! I have been looking forward to this anime since it was announced last August and it's been a long but worthwhile wait!!! I gotta say these first two episodes where a delight, it's following the story well, it even included some side stories, and the characters where as lovable as ever!!!

I'm really excited to see more of the story animated as it's something I love and treasure a lot. I was really happy with some of the stuff they snuck in to the anime too like card poses when Tsumugi talked about the boys strengths and even the cover of TRIGGER's CD Regality and their part 3 story costumes. It was like little things for the fans, I loved that.

Also he wasn't there long but I love Gaku Yaotome and now he's animated, I'm so thankful. He is a precious soba obsessed boy.

This series is so special to me, I'm glad it's finally here.

He wasn't my fave when I first started (only because I knew nothing about him or TRIGGER) but I started reading the story and I was gone, he became a fave really fast, and then the rabbit chats and I -cries-

It’s hard to resist the soba boy _(:3 」∠)_ tbh I was drawn in because of his character design and the fact he was voiced by Waccha at first :’D As for the group i7, Sougo ended up being my fave because he’s just so relateable (and those two certain scenes of his ww) But they’re all good boys and I hope everyone will see that ; v ;

Aaaa I also really want to see

It truly is and yeah that too, I got one of his cards by chance as my second SSR and it was quite nice (the Matsuri one). He's so pretty it's unfair! Haha. I didn't know Waccha at the time so though he'd been in stuff I'd watched before I wasn't familiar but I definitely am now! -looks at his songs I bought off iTunes- yeah. Aaaa Sogo was the character I picked as my fave before I started playing and him and Iori are my faves from i7 though I also like Yamato but all are good!!! ;A; Sogo indeed is very relatable, I didn't expect that at all!!! And yes me too ^-^

Omg I forgot about that
