After years of looking like it wasn't going to happen, Blizzard has officially announced at Blizzcon that they will be making official classic realms available to play on.

I've dabbled on private servers since Nostalrius, so this is going to be very interesting to see how they implement it. Plus how much it will cost (will it be bundled in the normal 15 dollar sub? Smaller fee? Cash shop?). And if it will be fully a "classic vanilla" experience, or if it will be Blizzards take on a classic realm with some more modern accoutrements.

Very interesting development. If memory serves me right, the first few months (for most players) will be spent leveling. Of course, I'm sure they'll make adjustments, but how much can they get away with and still feel classic vanilla?

Well I'm interested. I don't really know much about vanilla WoW but I will likely give it a go for a bit.

I would also like to see severs that cap out at expansions as well. Like TBC? then buy vanilla + TBC type of thing. Then maybe go ok I'm bored/done everything I'll get WoTLK now and play that and so on.

Id say like WoW should have 3 or 4 levels of the game.
WoW Classic edition vanilla
WoW lich king edition vanilla up to WoTLK
WoW Panda edition Vanilla up to MoP
WoW the current standard retail edition

In that they work the same as if you don't have the current expansion you can't go to the new area if you don't have it. So lets say i wanted to play up to TBC Id buy lich king edition vanilla + TBC and not buy WoTLK.
But more importantly spells/abilities stats freeze as if there was nothing afterwards. Unlike now even if you only to do level 80 stuff and freeze your exp your character still plays if you have up to 110. (which stinks because some level 100 talents used to be learn-able at 60/ 80 type of thing.) Spell/abilities removed that did exist as well.

They make so much from character boosts subs WoW tokens/transfers name changes etc etc. So it isn't a money issue but blizzard/activision are just well lazy.
Even if they had to make a new engine (like they said that they needed to and was why they said no) it shouldn't be as hard as they previously claimed. People have managed to reverse the game files and make core emulators/data bases and done that for years. (yes buggy but give them actual game tools and a income for doing it and I'm sure it would be time) Also kill off 90% of the reasons pirated servers exist.

If I ever met WoW devs for WoD and Legion I would slap them in the face so hard I would break my wrist I would not care how much it hurt either. Those expansions both partially ruined (WoD) and completely ruined (legion) my favorite class and all the bugs in the broken isles that I did a charge back. Siting this game was unfit for purpose and it was found to be in my favor.
If there is nothing wrong with my class why is no one ever it in raids/dungeons that stream on twitch? I don't think it's a player problem but crap game management side of things. Un fun and people scream that you aren't doing enough when you have no choice but to suck.

If I had access to where I loved WoW up to the last MoP patch I would still be playing and giving them a subscription fee instead of writing forum posts on how much I hate the last 2 expansions.

If they said hey penguincat we will do your idea. But we require $60 for each expansion and a buy a 5 year sub in advance my reply would be sure here you go.

With Oldschool Runescape it worked, but that was a different breed of game. And the retail version was honestly a shitshow. With WoW, that isn't true. Blizzard is still good company making great games. Jagex was a one hit wonder company that would be dead without Runescape.

And WoW classic is a very different experience. Runescape being an old click based RPG, there was actually a lot of content to be held in it. A lot of grinding for levels. Whether you liked that content was one thing or another.

WoW classic isn't going to last with what? Just getting armor?

I can hear the players crying that Blizzard's Classic WoW experience is not the Classic WoW experience they wanted or remembered already.

I never really play WOW but i feel like i missed the vanilla days, so this might be a great thing for me to experience even though it may not be the true original WOW

I'll definitely give it a try since I never played any of the older expansions (BC, WotLK) and would like to see how the game was back then.

This is probably the only thing Blizzard can do to get me interested in playing WoW again.

Pretty excited. I remember my first leveling experience...it was hell! I can't wait! Although I was dumb when I first leveled in wow, I was like 12 when it first came out so I'll probably be able to level a lot smarter this time.

This is me, except with WotLK. I'll settle for classic tho.
