So I was watching an anime, but when I tried to go to the next episode, my screen showed a 404 error. I closed my window and went on Crunchyroll once again, but I couldn't do anything. It only showed a message saying "Get the New Crunchyroll desktop applicaton", I downloaded it since the message was showing on the actual crunchyroll website, but then my virus scanner immediately went off saying it detected a threat. A few minutes later the website went up again...

Is this some kind of hack or is there an actual desktop application? Sorry for my bad English.

Other threads about this say it's a Trojan virus.

The "crunchyviewer.exe" definitely is not an intented piece of software. Just by googling it (and tracing back the IP) makes it fairly clear that crunchy servers have gotten hacked.
I've contacted crunchyroll via twitter and they may or may not notice it, but people probably should try contacting them outside the site to inform them about this, seeing how often even the forum throws the 404.

Avast blocked it straight away, and something renamed itself to svchost and that got blocked too since it was considered malware

Crunchyrolls German account just tweeted:

"And for our English-speaking audience
Please DO NOT access our website at the current time. We are aware of the issues and are working on it"
