It appears that getting Platinum for all PS4, PS3, and PS Vita games I own was a smart move.
Thanks, Sony.

They will pitch you the credit card but it isn't necessarily.
These "rewards" are driven from your Playstation services.
You can receive more awards by having the credit card but it isn't mandatory to get rewards from your trophies or Sony memberships (Vue/Now/PS+/etc).

5,000 points net a $50 Playstation Card (so $150 in PSN for all my reward points).
Playstation 4 Games appear to be 5,999 points.
Their Xperia XZ phones are 46,999 points (Xperia XA phones are 19,999 points).

It ranges depending on how much you want to save/collect, I would imagine.
I'm just going to continue to pretend that I haven't earned anything and keep gaming.

thanks for the tips! I'll check it out. I'm level 18 so I'll see how much i can get

Rewards for loyalty (sticking with the brand) is a good way to keep current customers and gain new customers.

Sounds interesting. Unfortunately, US only. A shame. I'd like to see how many points i would possibly get, if it were possible to join. I could calculate that, too.

I'm pretty sure the only trophies that count are the ones that you unlock AFTER this credit program begins. Also, it's apparently capped at 120 dollars of credit, and one Platinum is one dollar of credit, meaning you'd apparently have to earn 120 Platinums to cap yourself on credits. All in all, that's quite a bit of gameplay and effort for a minuscule benefit. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken though.

1. There's no cap.
2. Previous trophies (prior to update) do not count towards this (which confuses me due to my amount of Sony Rewards points)
3. 1 Plat = $10 (essentially)

This is more of an incentive to complete games to get a platinum trophy, not so much as a means of supporting one's gaming habits as a whole.
It does not appear to be a horrible idea.
More or less, it appears to be an attempt to get more users to engage with their Sony Rewards system.
They did the same with the Playstation 3 (there was a bonus that would allow you to 270 points when buying a PS3 bundle).
