Now I’ve been on Crunchyroll for a while now and I’ve noticed that the manga section is not very good. Such as titles like How to keep a mummy where it seems that they’ve just abandoned it or how they miss some weeks on a title that has new chapters weekly.... does anyone know what’s up with that?

My guess is that it probably has to do with licensing more than anything else, since everything they share here is done so through a legal means. It could also just be that their manga platform isn't nearly as popular as the anime and drama, so it's a lesser priority.

The manga was the main reason I am paying for crunchyroll. But now that I have read almost all the manga available (which is a very small selection), I don't really feel like I need to continue paying. Recently some new manga have been posted and at first I was very excited to dig in, but all the new manga have the first chapter and then skip to the more recent ones. I feel like I am being treated as though I am not paying for the service by being provided with incomplete content. Why would I read a manga if I can't at least read the whole first volume? I understand that it is probably a licensing issue but, If the content is not improved soon then I cannot continue paying for crunchyroll.

A good solution to this problem is to make manga a separate service rather than packaging it in with anime. Chances are that of my six bucks a month, only a small portion goes to manga. I would rather put all that money to manga because I am okay with watching ads on anime and waiting a week for the latest episode. If manga was a separate service then more money could be put towards getting licensing to provide us with manga.

At the moment the best option is to put aside the money I normally pay for crunchyroll and buy the manga with it because I can't get complete content on crunchyroll.

I wish there was a manga only subscription with good selection. Unfortunately, I think the user base for manga subscription is too low, compared to anime. And it will probably cost much more than 6 bucks a month.

I gave up on this site's manga a long time ago. Their selection sucks, they're always late on new chapters and to top it off, their reader is complete trash.

Noticed that some of CR's manga titles are suddenly, very recently missing a whole lot of chapters. Like Sweetness & Lightning for instance is missing chapters 2 through 44 for example. Or Grand Blue Dreaming is missing ch. 2-37.

Some kind of licensing weirdness?

Licensing yes. Weirdness, not particularly. Here are the relevant Site News announcments:

/forumtopic-1014753/new-crunchyroll-manga-simulpubs-starting-march-2018

The reason some newly added titles have gaps is presumably because those early chapters have already been collected into a volume that is, or will soon be, available for sale. Chapter 1 is retained essentially as a preview to give folks a taste of the manga, without having to buy (or pirate) just to see if it's likely to be of interest to them.

Makes sense. Thanks for the info!

Would it be possible to link to articles like that on specific manga pages, or at least post a brief boilerplate statement explaining the gaps for folks encountering them for the first time?

I would be willing to pay exclusively for the manga.

I was reading a manga and then it seems in the past month they deleted all of the content for the first 100 chapters. I was into it, and then they cut me off with no warning or anything, and updated to like only past the 100th chapter.

I like reading manga and supporting the authors legally. I want to do so. I just wish that my options to do so were better for me.
