We had another catalog title from Funimation launch on Friday, as Burst Angel became available for members in the US and Canada!

The future’s looking bleak. It’s a good thing there’s a new sheriff in town. Her name is Jo and she’s an enigma even to herself. Alongside her partners Sei, Amy, and Meg, Jo fights for the citizens who can’t defend themselves. Confronting corruption and twisted science, these gals are on fire—and they’re the best chance the wounded city’s got.

More catalog titles come to the Crunchyroll lineup today as both seasons of Baka & Test - Summon the Beasts - launches at 5:30pm PT for members in the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland.

Fumizuki Academy’s students can summon Avatars, pint-sized versions of themselves that battle using special powers. The students are grouped by skill level, and those in Class A are the brightest. Then there’s Akihisa Yoshii’s group—lowly Class F. They’re the worst on campus, and they’re about to take on the school’s best.

Utawarerumono also joins the library today at 6pm PT for members in the following territories: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa.

After mysterious Hakuoro was left for dead, a girl named Eluluu nursed him back to health. He was welcomed into a barren land of strange creatures, where an angry god seeks vengeance and an oppressive government slaughters the innocent. With a bloody war looming on the horizon, will the masked hero liberate the people who saved him and unlock his elusive memories?

We've got 2 more catalog titles coming this afternoon with KOWABON launching at 4pm PT for members worldwide ex Asia, and Onara Goro available at 4:30pm PT for members worldwide ex Asia and Italian-speaking countries.

The world is filled with cameras. Their "eyes" have been seeing a world you didn't know existed.

Fart man Onara Goro comes like the wind, letting rip all kinds of problems in this heartful comedy.

Hey Everyone,

We've got a new catalog title today as Rainy Cocoa in Hawaii is now available for members in the following territories: U.S.A, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, and Central and South America including Caribbean.

Amami, the owner of the Rainy Color café, assigned Nozomu Tokura as the manager of the new shop in Hawaii. Even though life of Nozomu is increasingly hectic toward the opening, he and his new fellows in Hawaii keep positive and make their efforts trying to get everything down. Can they make it by the date of opening?

That's a funny way to spell Star Blazers... Or does that get it's own thread?

Haha, wow, what a mixed batch, Yamato thrown in with Onara Goro, Rainy Cocoa, and an experimental horror short.

When I started watching anime seriously in 2015, the original Yamato (1974) was one of the first shows I picked up, and it remains one of my favorite anime of all time. I even liked the 2010 live action movie. But I'm holding off on the 2199 remake until after I finish the rest of the original sequel series and movies. 2199 is one of only two anime I haven't seen that I expect I will give a 10/10, the other being next season's Hakumei to Mikochi.

Edit: So here's what's up, Funi only just got it themselves: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2017/11/08/funimation-announces-star-blazers-space-battleship-yamato-2199-english-dub-cast

I knew it wasn't legally streamable anywhere before. Yamato 2199 was a high-budget, theatrically released OVA, so maybe this is a case of the Japanese license owner deciding that after five years it's now old enough to make available for streaming? And/or just the trend of Japan opening up more to international streaming in general.

@wolfwing1 Nope! /star-blazers-space-battleship-yamato-2199 is a modern faithful remake of the original 1974 show. The story starts from the beginning, so there is absolutely no need to read up on or watch anything else in order to understand and enjoy it. It's also one of the best-received remakes I've ever heard of, judging by reactions I've read from longtime fans. The only sticking point is that some of them don't like the 3DCG ships.

The original series has three seasons of 2 cour each, and some movies. Yamato 2199 is a remake of the first 2-cour season, which is a self-contained and conclusive story; the sequels' stories were created afterward. The original second season is currently being remade as "Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love".

Edit: I just noticed that it's been added to the fall simulcasts thread, since it's being released weekly in time with Funimation's weekly dub premiere.

Well, it's comparable to Yamishibai, since it's a horror short with unusual animation, in this case rotoscoping that looks like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Scanner_Darkly_(film) but with a far lower framerate.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/30948/Kowabon

Kosshi: "Both are short-format and of horror stories each episode. The animation for Yami Shibai is a bit better but if you're looking for more horror, these are both filled with jump scares."

Tettsui: "I have to admit that I was pretty disappointed with the outcome though. I appreciated the experimental technique, but felt that the anime as a whole was lacking in direction and plot. At the very least, I thought they should've done a different story for each episode, but instead, it was essentially the same idea with different people. It became boring very quickly."

Ah nice to see the first season of Utawarerumono here, I watched it a few years ago when I had a Funimation subscription as well but I've been interested in playing the games recently and thought about rewatching it, so glad I won't have to jump through any hoops to be able to watch it

I only ever saw the second season of Baka & Test, so I was confused through the entire thing. But, I am glad it is here so that I can watch the first season. Though it may take me a while to get to it since I just started watching Detective Conan and I am only on episode 760.

@Neko_Majin_C Were you able to see the beginning of Detective Conan before picking up the episodes licensed here?

It's a frustrating situation. A lot of fans feel the show was at its best in its first 200 episodes. But for people who are caught up, it's great to have the new episodes simulcasted here.

CR's scorned and estranged ex, Sentai, got UQ Holder for their new sugar daddy Amazon. Don't expect it to ever come here, unless there's a big change in the landscape many years from now. http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-1001735/fall-2017-simulcasts?pg=16#56800521

Even then it's more likely gonna end up on Hi-Dive than it is CR.
