I don't think about him much, to be honest, and I'm not especially interested in that period of history, but when I do:

He was a Grade A asshole, and a pretty horrible person. Like qwueri said, he's celebrated for some pretty silly stuff. However, I'm still glad he got here, and I'm glad I'm here as a result.

Don't see any reason I should care about him, especially since he can't even get me a day off from work.

This ^ all the way

Hell if you ask most people, they probably won't even remember why we celebrate the fourth of July.

Well, Given there weren't any accurate sources at the time I can see the confusion on pigment alone as they are similar. But what I can't understand is the confusion in culture. Maybe he thought he found isolated Indians who were different?

Regardless, Columbus was ruthless and dehumanizing to people where ever he went. That's a documented fact. Columbus did little in the way of discovery beyond making the endeavor something that was taken seriously to the wealthy in Europe.

It was for humor's sake, to be quite honest.

There is also the notion that apparently, and I am not in the current position to confirm it, but that Columbus comprised his crew of inexperienced sailors, in that he would be the most competent navigator whose authority would rarely be questioned, on the idea that it may have been considered a suicide mission.

Not sure, but that screams being a complete jerk, alongside being in luck that America even existed.

He was ok. He was more of an explorer and the spanish people that came after him was much worse. However he brought a variety of plagues that devastated the continent for centuries.

He doesn’t bother me one bit and I honestly couldn’t care less about the man. The show Adam Ruins Everything pretty much sums up exactly what he did.

Personally, I think is disgusting that he was ever celebrated and I'm glad they're working on changing it. Truly a despicable man.

He's a guy whose holiday I had off in school but not for work. That's about all he really matters to me. Personally, I think he was kind of a douche, and even if it turns out he wasn't the worst of the European explorers in his treatment of natives, he was still indicative of that mindset..
