Umm.. being an otaku is ok.

i think it get a lil wastefull with money. but then again. you can look at being an otaku as being a hobby. and people spend money on their hobbies. so yeah.! i just like to spend my money on things i'll be able to use for future references. not like figures. . but maybe pillows . keychains, manga, anime, ect...

maybe even a set of cat ears... *looks around* maybe i am an otaku?!

then again. maybe not.

i saw a "doccumentary" on this although it was actually a wierd show with guest star, shoko nakagawa, famous J-pop singer and according to it there are 12 types of otaku(obsessions) and I think the closest thing I fit in is the moe-taku(love for cute anime charaters) and next being something about a maid fetish(okay I forgot the real name but its along those lines). To be frank, you don't need lots of money to be an otaku, just enough dedication. And people's perception of otaku has chaged even in Japan.People like this are starting to be accepted by society. In fact, another doccumentary by BBC actually showed an anonymous woman(married to an otaku) say that she felt otakus make better husbands since they are generally very devoted to things they love(+ you don't need to worry about cheating husbands apparently since a limited edition haruhi figurine is good enough)

So I think otakus are ok as long as they are not psycotic or anything.

You are absolutely right..

how come? being an otaku is no less than having a passion for something...

Otaku is extremely negative in meaning as it is used to refer to someone who stays at home all the time and doesn't have a life (no social life, no love life, etc)

Usually an otaku person has nothing better to do with their life so they pass the time by watching anime, playing videogames, surfing the internet (otaku is also used to refer to a nerd/hacker/programmer).

In the Western culture, people confuse otaku to be something positive like "Guru". If you think about it, it's not really good to be called a guru if it means you are a total loser who can't socialize with other people except through the Internet.

Other Japanese words which have been confused by Westerners also include but not limited to: Anime, Manga, etc

(urbandictionary meaning lol)

really?? i didn't know that...
einiweiz...

i DO have a Life...
and it's simply not revolving on a heavenly enternainment called ANIME.

I am an Otaku... BUT i Know My Limitations.
My ActioNs are simply overboard because, like I said.. It's a PASSION.

P.S.

My lovelife and social life?

THey're BlOOmiNg faster than lightning...LOL

Not buying lunch for 3 days in order to buy a poster, and you say you know your limits?

AheM... That wasn't lunch... It was RECESS...

This doesn't really change the fact that you were avoiding meals..

yes daddy...
^^
but i'm still an otaku.

You go girL
show your truE nature to him.. release!
haha.. i used to like that line from cardcaptor sakura...
WeLL anyway..
YoU doN't have to listen to other people...
if you just hear the beat inside that heart of yours, things are gonna be fine...

Otaku's are a great way to weed out the casual watcher from the the more serious fan. All sub-cultures have they're own version and were no different.
