I don't know a lot about Disney beside the movies they released. It's not until recently that I came across an article about them responding to the Star Wars: Battlefront 2 controversy . There were articles about people wanting boycott The Last Jedi and all Disney movies ? All the negative press about star wars........

It's all because of this article + the recent demands for their up coming star wars film

Is Disney paying its share in Anaheim?
The money battle outside the Happiest Place on Earth.

as for Disney they lead the front in trying to indoctrinate the kids early so, as time goes along it'll be easier with the school systems. there are plenty of undertones in their stuff, it wasn't as easily found but now it's pretty much in your face. such as making innocent cartoons and casting in certain "history" points. China and now Mexico. not to mention all the sex, sexual assault, child pedo and other scandals that have come from Disney over the years quickly covered up or not reported at all. they are seriously forcing the "acceptance" in Star Wars and Pirate movies these days. goodness look at the stars which come out of Disney, they come in all innocent but once they get out... only a few have toned down, the masses just keep on "that" track sort of thing. Disney brings in billions, but the possibility they are paying their fair share in taxes is possibly slim, I believe they, like others, are off shore, so they are paying a fraction and that's all they have to pay. all the other money they rack in doesn't go to them, they fair their "taxes" to host their buildings, otherwise, the rest goes off shores. just my opinion on the matter, not hard evidence, just some research applied to the company over the years in past articles.

I grew up in central Florida so we went to Disney World a lot. Now that I'm a parent we've taken our daughter to the parks numerous times. It's a different kind of fun seeing her experience Disney World. But it's pricey so we take advantage of annual passes which save money.

I enjoy the movies/shows. Not all are great but none of them are flat out terrible. Wreak-it-Ralph, Big Hero 6, Mulan, Nightmare Before X-Mas, Robin Hood and Sword in the Stone are some of my favorites.

But imagine being a parent of a little girl when the "Frozen Craze" hit 4 years ago. It was fucking insane. We watched it so much even my daughter is sick of it now. See actually hates Elsa because of how mainstream and popular she got.

I like their old animated movies.

Other than that, I don't care too much about it.

I never truly supported Disney, who knows what sick and twisted shit they have done to people for the sake of entertainment.

Sure, they got some good movies, there's no doubting that, and there's no doubting that I have had my fair share of wonderful moments while enjoying it, because its DISNEY, they just do that sometimes, you can't avoid it..... Those evil assholes

ya..... Anyone can make a good movie with Billions of dollars at their disposal, all of the talent just swarms to the cash. Some really good writers, symphonies, animators, Directors, actors. Disney is the top dog of the entertainment business, entertainment is money...... Life is second, sad but True.

Best description for Disney

We make things for everyone, but we don't need to blow away the adults, we just make them laugh every now and then to keep them coming back for more, and the children won't know the difference until they get older.

And it works, it absolutely works.

I think Futurama summed it up best in their not-so-subtle take on it during the moon episode.

In many ways it's wrong, has a bunch of negative effects and can be pretty fucked up at times. But it's brought comfort and happiness to so many people (myself included) that it's very hard to say that it's presence has been a net negative. I mean we probably wouldn't have anime if it were not for Disney and even if we did it would look nothing like what we've seen in the medium. Think about that.

Disney is like a child that was your best buddy with their vivid imagination during childhood but now is becoming greedy but still semi-wondrous as it grows up with you into adulthood while at the same time becoming so many other children's friend but doesn't have the same impact as with you since it's growing older and losing that once whimsical imagination; which happens when you get old, sometimes.

When I think of Disney I think of Kingdom Hearts and how the only reason I know of any of the movies is through the game.

Very true. Anime/manga fans should be more aware of this.

I was fortunate enough to visit the International Manga Museum in Kyoto several years ago. The part I found most fascinating were older manga/comics before Tezuka Osamu's influence hit in the 40's -50's (who was heavily influenced by Disney). The drawings were somewhat crude and not so "kawaii." But walking through the exhibit it was clear when the west started to influence Japanese comics.

From my understanding after the war people wanted more cute and lighthearted things to look at, I mean who could blame them?

It's a giant mass-media conglomerate. They do some good things, and they do some shitty things. Tough to form an absolute opinion. I like them better than Comcast, I guess?

All I can say is that Disney is responsible for some of my best personal memories, they have produced some incredibly imaginative work, and they have made my kid happy, so there's that. Also, as others have pointed out, Disney's early influence on manga and anime cannot be ignored.

And, as a die-hard fan of Halloween, any company responsible for The Nightmare Before Christmas can't be all bad.
