I'm wondering what your feelings are for CGI over handrawn animation. Feel free to write something as well as voting. Oh, you can also post images/GIFs of CGI you think would be an example of done right/wrong or if you just enjoyed the CGI. Same goes for handrawn.

Just try not to spam (words, images, & otherwise) THANKS!

When it comes to anime, I'm not normally all that enthused in either direction on CGI. It doesn't usually matter to me too much. In fact, anime does it in a way that I won't normally notice the CGI at all. It honestly doesn't bug me until something like GDGD Fairies comes along. That. Shit. Looks. HIDEOUS.

As far as CGI outside of anime though, I am NOT the biggest fan. It drives me insane that it is a cartoon trying to shed its "cartoonness". I only put up with CGI animated series and films if the writing is good enough for me. Or if the animation is done in such a way as to retain the cartoonness instead of shed it (i.e. Hotel Transylvania series because Genndy Tartakovsky knows what he is doing with that jerky, rubber hose style he likes playing with).

I don't mind and even like CGI when it doesn't break immersion and is cohesive. Clunky, rigid, and even garish models/effects contrasting vividly with otherwise decent to great visuals are a turn-off, to me.

I sure do miss hand drawn or mostly hand drawn, but that's too pricey with the world's economy these days. but, if it's done the right way I can tolerate it.

While I don't exactly think highly of CGI, if used right I'm all for it. Some shows utilize it right like Ajin, Land of the Lustrous, and Arpeggio of Blue Steel, while others totally use it wrong like Sailor Moon Crystal and Kado, and to an extreme extent using it totally wrong and taking the lazy approach would be Naria Girls. There are some shows where it is well-utilized and appropriate to do so, but for most shows, just stick to the handdrawn methods as that's what anime is all about. So yeah, while I prefer handdrawn, I'm quite open to CGI when used the right way.

Historically, I haven't really liked CGI. I must say Land of the Lustrous, this season has changed that. They're doing CGI right

i prefer hand drawn animation over CGI but if used correctly i can tolerate and even like it [say a Pixar film] if it's background normally it's not obvious and i can still enjoy the anime, but CGI anime isn't at a stage i can enjoy it. i really like the story of RWBY for example, but it was't until this season i could say i enjoyed actually watching the series. the first couple seasons looked like PS1 cut scenes so i would listen but never watch the show.

Cgi looks terrible unless its used for stuff like machinery and used sparingly. Hand drawn animation is much more expressive and much more beautiful.

It's "meh." I can deal with it.

I thought this thread was going to be about superimposing 3D on top of 2D animation.
Which as demonstrated by Houseki no Kuni recently, surprisingly works?? It was basically like animating on top of a really clean storyboard I guess. I've seen 2D on top of 3D, but never 3D on top of 2D before.

CGI for the most part is a waste of time and money to have the final project suck 99.72 %out of 100 % of the time
