I'm generally not really too embarrassed by liking anything, and given how wide a range of genres and subject matters anime deals with I will often just not watch something if I would consider it "embarrassing" to either me or to anime in general. For example, I consider a lot of typical shounen to be pretty embarrassing personally but I also basically don't watch any of it.

All that said, I can definitely think of one example where I was embarrassed by a show I otherwise really enjoyed, and that was how Kanna was sometimes treated/used in Dragon Maid. I loved Dragon Maid on almost all accounts but the way Kanna was used in a few scenes in a few episodes (and the continued fandom around her in some respects) was nearly enough to make me turn the show off.

I know it won't count, since it's a company rather than an anime, but 4Kids.

They dubbed Pokemon, not knowing or caring that it was terrible from beginning to end, and continues to be terrible to this day. They attempted to repeat Pokemon's success with Yu-Gi-Oh, but while it was slightly better, it was hampered by an awful dub job that makes the Pokemon dub look masterful.

And then, afterward, they purchase Fox Kids' former time slot, followed by Kids WB's six years later. They dub all sorts of anime, regardless if they were good or bad in Japan, and make them bad or worse with their outdated dubbing practices, like with Sonic X, the numerous Pokemon rip-offs they'd dub like Dinosaur King and Fighting Foodons, and the final nail in the coffin itself, One Piece. And, it was around the same time that streaming services like Crunchyroll would arrive to air the exact same anime in their original Japanese formats with English subtitles, rendering 4Kids an archaic relic of a long-gone time period, to the point of making it file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. Twice!

It'd have to be Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma... lol. Like I watch it and love it but when they eat the food and other people are around not expecting it; it can get so embarrassing lol

I guess it depends on where your dial is set for "embarassing." Like, I'll watch Shinmai Maou no Testament without a care in the world, but I'm not pulling it up on the Roku for the in-laws after Christmas dinner. (Although, after the eighth consecutive viewing of A Christmas Story...)

Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata... Fun concept ruined by the mass amounts of fan service, I mean the first episode (or episode 0) have "fan service' in the title, so you know what you're getting into but I was still disappointed with how much fan service there was.

I figured the OP didn't mean anime you're embarrassed to watch, but embarrassed that it even exists..in which case, I say let people like what they like, just because I don't care for something doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.

Either way, a lot of posts in this thread remind me of this youtube video I ran across one day.

warning...a lot of cussing

Heh, that video is truth. If there's not a law written up about that, there should be.
