I am basing what I am writing on common sense and on many opinions I've read. Hank Azaria, who does Apu's voice, might be a talented voice actor, but he is not Indian, and does a really absurd Indian accent that doesn't sound like a real Indian. If you genuinely cared about what Indians think about Apu, it is pretty easy to find plenty of opinions on the internet.

But it takes some common sense to be able to read through dozens of opinions and figure out whether there is a general consensus and what that consensus is.

Eh i mean like i said before, Americans do a terrible job at acting as or portraying Aussies. Maybe its just because iam white that i dont get offended? My white privilege and all?
People need a thicker skin. IMO. But to each their own.
On a side note, all my Asian friends and co workers are cool with Asian stero types and jokes. They make racist jokes about other races as well and do impersonations. So what is considered offensive to one may not be to another.

Are you trying to say all Australians are not like Steve Irwin in their accent and behavior? THIS CANNOT BE!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Crikey.

They were holding protests outside of the studio where the voice actors recorded in 1992.
The only difference is that there wasn't a documentary made, nor were there people who listened to it much, and it was a "blip" in the realm of news because people weren't hyper-focused on these things.

Nobody waited for 25 years.
They just weren't given a spotlight like they have now.

Well a lot of people were kids 25 years ago so not exactly of the age to go out and protest. Social media also didn't exist 25 years ago so yah you probably aren't going to see many twitter complaints about it when the Simpson's started.

I watched the documentary some of this is based on, and it wasn't nearly as black and white as people are assuming it to be. The person that made the documentary is a fan of the Simpson's and also pointed out that stereotyping is indeed something they do for all races/types of people. They acknowledged in their documentary that the issue likely isn't so much of a Simpson's thing but a symptom of our culture, especially when you look at the time it was created. Stereotypes aren't a problem when you have plenty of other representation in the media. The problem is however when you got some white guy voicing a character in a stereotypical manner and it is basically the only representation an entire group of people has in the media. A generation of kids had to grow up dealing with, “Thank you! Come again.” joke remarks that likely got staler and staler with each rendition.

Hmm i never really heard that much here. Here we just associate Indians with curry, cricket, being taxi drivers and working in service stations.
All of which are accurate and not bad things.
I guess Indian guys also have the reputation of being sleazy on line lol. And Indians of course do have very distinctive accents. But so dose most people from non English speaking back grounds.
Oh i also associate Indians with Bollywood and loving musical films. Stero typing all of the things that i mentioned shouldn't be offensive i wouldn't have thought?
There is a good stand up comedian who is half Indian and half Canadian if memory serves. He dose some funny jokes about India and Indians. But i guess that's where its ok because he himself is Indian.
But yeah i guess i dont get it. I get offended when people think only white people are racist or white people have no culture and etc but the jokes about being lame and cant dance, cant jump, poor fashion, rednecks, etc are funny.
There's double standards, blacks can joke about us and we can laugh at it, other way around not so much...
But yeah i cant speak for Indian people anyways. But the one Indian guy that actually did post in this thread say he wasn't offended by it.

Hmm I see. I don't think they should still be given any spotlight now, this is not even such a big issue as they're making it out to be.
Just a waste of our time having to listen to them.

I am very sorry you are being forced to listen to SJW's whinge about cartoons against your will. you should really talk to the UN about that or something that sounds like a human rights violation.
