Thousands of firefighters battle 6 major wildfires

Are they sure these are wildfires and not arson ? The headache that will come after for these homeowners after losing everything will be dealing with the insurance company.

It's ideal to have a box/folder of important documents-- important documents that you must bring with you in an emergency. A deposit box at the bank for these would also work (beside keeping copies at multiple locations).

there were reports of attempted arson. it's possible it started as an arson, or a slightly lit cigar thrown on the side, and the extreme dry conditions + high winds caused the fire to grow and spread.

The drama unfolded around 5:30 p.m., when a small blaze erupted in the hills behind a Residence Inn in Anaheim.

"Incredibly dangerous. This area is very thick underbrush. It's what we call Deer Canyon, it runs up. Historically, if we have fires in those areas we have hundreds of homes and thousands of residents who would be at risk," Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.

An off-duty police lieutenant spotted the fire as authorities put out the flames. Investigators said that's when the suspect tried again.

"He was walking around with some type of incendiary device, attempting to start multiple fires - more than two," Wyatt said.

^that guy should be locked up for life. and given the seriousness of the crime, letting him live is being overly generous.

I have relatives who live in Santa Clarita. These fires and the Santa Ana winds have my wife and I real concerned for their safety.

It was an eerie watch seeing traffic on fire while plying I-15 (Cajon Pass). I used to enter LA Basin years ago this way when I drove 18-wheelers. Very eerie....someone in a pickup towing a pleasure boat that is on fire. Can't move forward, can't back up. Watching a KLLM big rig roast. Damn, almost a biblical disaster in the making w/o the CG.....

You guys are talking about this guy (Ken Storey)? another professor ?

Still, just drop it guys. It doesn't matter which side of the political spectrum you are on just leave victims of natural disaster out of it

Wildfires caused quite a lot of trouble further north with the air quality concerns, and even up here in Seattle we got some of it with hazy skies. At least it was nowhere near as bad as during the summer when the Pacific Northwest had an unusual dry spell and back-to-back weeklong heatwaves with only a short cool period in between, which is unheard of here. During that time, wildfires in BC were out of control causing a lot of smoke that covered the skies here. In any case, just goes to show how dry it has been in California when wildfire season normally ends in October, but this year it has extended into December when it's supposed to get wet.

Yeah, trying to make victims of natural disasters out as recipients of "karma" is a surefire way to make anyone look like an instant asshole.
