I'm going to link to a Reddit Thread, a Youtube Video, and an old Anime Blog. That doesn't sound like the greatest collection of sources to cite, but I will leave it to you to look more into it if you are that curious about the topic. I personally do not like Lolicon or Shota. I'm posting this poll because I find the topic of the legality of this material in the USA interesting. Please keep any discussions that you have civil. This only is about the USA.

animated kids are typically legal in a lot of places, the states have slim laws when it comes to animated porn, but if you have live action kids you're going to be in some serious trouble. so, thus, pedos have turned to owning/looking at animated porn. but it's alright, they aren't models or anything. yay for justified loop holes /sarcasm

Loopholes would render a law unable to be enforced or to prevent the outcome it sought to ban. For this case, it would to prevent the victimization of underage children in the production of child pornography and such.

By the logic you present by calling it a "loophole", one may say that videogames like Call of Duty are loopholes for homicide. I find such a notion ridiculous

This is dependent on the view of what the law intends to do or should intend to do. I could scarcely say the aforementioned laws on child pornography exist solely to prevent pedophiles from jerking off, but to protect children.

I’m neither a lawyer nor a specialist on observing judiciary or legal proceedings.

a troll forum, youtube and a webpage from someone who's not even a lawyer is not exactly what i'd call credible sources.
having said that, the legality or not is decided by the jurors, which consists of normal people. good luck trying to justify it in front of people who probably never saw anime besides maybe pokemon.
