Hi crunchyroll,

I have been premium member for quite a while. I think the over all quality of the videos, range and quality of the website, app interfaces to be top notch. However sometimes I feel that I am missing out on a lot of the extras that comes with having a premium membership simply because I reside in Australia. For example your free shipping deals are always US only.

The competitions that you run are too and the few $$ I might save purchasing from your store as a premium member (which I would love to do and support you) are all outweighed by extravagant shipping costs. That are larger than the norm from the US. I love crunchy roll but I think your promotions are a little bias. I would love if we could get some global competitions and some cheaper shipping.

Thanks long time customer from down under

There is nothing we can do about the shipping costs. In the best interest of the customer we will only use trackable and insured shipping options. Our warehouse operator does not even offer barebone economy shipping in first place, as uninsured overseas shipping is just a huge mess. You can check on the website of USPS just how expensive shipping to Australia is.

Hi, thanks for replying I checked the website and it was fairly confusing so I will just take your word for it.
Still it would be nice if the comps were open to us. Pretty please.

Thanks

The problem with sweepstakes are usually restrictive laws in some of the countries. For each country we offer sweepstakes in, we have to individually consider local law. Some examples: Sweden has strict lottery laws that prohibit online sweepstakes without a lottery license. In Italy we'd have to deposit the prizes or an equivalent amount of money with the government.

As someone who also lives in Australia and bought a heap of things from the US over the years. It is pretty much the bog standard USPS international shipping rate. If they shipped more overseas and became a mass volume shipper. They could maybe drop the price a little bit maybe like ~$5 on a box the size of 20 anime volumes. So if it was $50 before it would now be $45 overall nothing super exciting.

Competitions are open except for most items.
Any sort of travel to Japan competitions are generally open. (though they require premium so I don't always read the full terms as it doesn't apply to me but i have seen several that did include Australia before.)

(in terms of just Australia)
Items though are different bag of cookies. While not illegal to import/export licensees (who 99% of the time provide the prizes) don't want to supply outside their designated region/s with prizes.
Part A is legality it may break a contract if they have a rival provider/distributor in that region.
Part B overall shipping costs no point giving a prize away if it costs way more to deliver it then the actual prize it's self.

Two of the current sweepstakes are open too people in Australia. Stuff like flash giveaways on CR's twitter you will find nope to outside North America for the above reasons.

If you like the chance of anime/video games based prizes then companies like Animelab/Madman (Australia and New Zealand) and 'NIS America in Europe' (which covers Europe, UK/Ireland, Australia and New Zealand) offer things every so often. (these are no means the only ones just the only ones I know about.)

unless it's a Crunchyroll exclusive item, you might want to consider buying products elsewhere.
shipping is not really a strong point of Crunchyroll - i read enough posts of people complaining that their preorder didn't arrive, and of course, they can't get a refund ("all sales are final"). the blurays are also sometimes priced higher than current market value (Sentai sometimes make substancial discounts on their blurays, but Crunchyroll still sells at regular non-discounted prices, so premium members end up paying $55-60 usd for a disc, when the exact same can be found for around $30-35 on Amazon or Sentai official site)

one alternative option is buying directly from other providers like Amazon Japan, and then using a package forwarding service to lower the costs. (one benefit with Amazon Japan is that, unlike Crunchyroll, they are completely transparent in regard to shipping costs, and they are known for good customer service)
