sleep
Posted 2/17/08 , edited 2/17/08
yes i know there is another topic about sleep already made, but that is not very well-made and specifically asks "who needs sleep" so dont go reporting me peeps

so.....sleep, for those of you who dont already know what it is, it is a process that helps to maintain homeostasis and is a period of time for the mind to organize things that happened and for the body to rest.

i have some basic questions.........

1) have you ever stayed up more than 2 days in a row? if so, did you feel sick or weird?

2)
would life be better without sleep?

3) do you like sleeping?

4) if you didnt have to sleep, what would you do with those hours?

5)
i notice that many of people(who arent insomniacs, people who prefer day over night, or have night jobs) who stay up frequently are procrastinators ........, so does the lack of sleep cause a habit of postponing things?

6) if you could reset your biological clock, what would be the ideal times for sleep?

7) what do you think dreams are?

so yeah, you dont have to answer all seven of my questions, one or two would be nice.....

my answers:
1- i have stayed up for more than two days, and it gives me this weird feeling like........anxiety or some kind of fluttering in my chest........also i'm noticeably more irritable and i cant focus too well

2- honestly, i think life would suck without sleep, but i hate that you have to sleep so much...so no i dont want sleep to be gone forever

3- i like to sleep, but as i said before not so frequently, maybe 12 hours in 2 days is normal, but on weekends, around 20 hours, cause i take siestas on saturdays and sundays......

4-if i didnt have to sleep, i would be reading or maybe have a part-time job to get some more cash........maybe spend some more time doing the homework i used to fall asleep doing

5- i have no idea, but it is sort of a pattern, maybe its just speculation, but i think it might be some kind of emergent behaviour...........

6- i think ideal times for sleep would be from 9 in the morning to about 4 in the afternoon, cause then it wouldnt be too hot in the summer, and it would be night outside.....although i'd get sort of pale from the lack of exposure....but thats ok

7- i think dreams are the bits of random information that your brain memorizes, but not on purpose of course.....the things that overflow from your thoughts of what is important, or left over imprints of strong emotions, get poured into some kind of blender and then replayed with all the info mixed up and stuff.........

so yeah sleep = curse&cure

7 i have no idea but i read a couple articles on it. dreams are your deepest desires or fears. Another article says that they give a warning about life. For example if you had a dream you forgot to turn in your final paper you become super freaked out. When you wake up you become extra careful not to do something stupid like that. When children have nightmares of monsters chasing them, its something to do with our ancestors when predatory animals chase after humans, (so you'd be extra careful of surviving) but once children learn more about life they learn that no animals will get them so these nightmares soon stop. They had an experiment on this. They made a mouse not have an adequate amount of sleep. They noticed the mouse soon had no fear at all (they put th emouse on an open area but it just stood still. A normal mouse would scurry for cover) i read this in some pshychology magazine

Nah... I stay up because I don't feel like losing the feeling of time having stopped or because I want to be done watching something.

6) if you could reset your biological clock, what would be the ideal times for sleep?
Same as I already have maybe...

7) what do you think dreams are?
Dreams are.. hopes, the mind rethinking about things you've gone through previously.. Dreams is not something made of logic, dreams has rules of their own.. It's another world... Ehm.. It's hard to explain..

1) have you ever stayed up more than 2 days in a row? if so, did you feel sick or weird?
> To be honest, I can't do it. I'll die for sure XD

2) would life be better without sleep?
No. Although I have a lot of things to do, I still need some time for myself. And that time for myself is called SLEEPING!

3) do you like sleeping?
YES!

4) if you didnt have to sleep, what would you do with those hours?
Study, read manga, watch anime, work on thesis, surf the net, play video games, and the list goes on...XD

5) i notice that many of people(who arent insomniacs, people who prefer day over night, or have night jobs) who stay up frequently are procrastinators ........, so does the lack of sleep cause a habit of postponing things?
Yes because when you don't have enough sleep, you can't think well, you have shorter attention span and you tend to close your eyes while doing something.

6) if you could reset your biological clock, what would be the ideal times for sleep?
2 AM, I guess.

7) what do you think dreams are?
Dreams, for me, are manifestations of what we really want.

1) have you ever stayed up more than 2 days in a row? if so, did you feel sick or weird?
- Yep. I didn't notice the time coz i was busy with something and i didn't feel at all tired, but when i stopped stress hit me like a meteor..So i had to sleep longer to compensate.

2) would life be better without sleep?
- Nah.. i don't think so.. We wouldn't be able to rest properly, and psychologically speaking, we need to dream.

3) do you like sleeping?
- Yep!! ^^ It's quite a necessity for me.

4) if you didnt have to sleep, what would you do with those hours?
- Play online games, i guess. =P

5) i notice that many of people(who arent insomniacs, people who prefer day over night, or have night jobs) who stay up frequently are procrastinators ........, so does the lack of sleep cause a habit of postponing things?
- Oh yeah, now that you mentioned it. =P I think it does.

6) if you could reset your biological clock, what would be the ideal times for sleep?
- it should probably start at around noon, preferably at 1pm, then i'd wake up at 9pm. =P

7) what do you think dreams are?
- i think it's the brain's way of releasing some of the tension that you gained when you were awake.. if you dream less, you get more stressed.. XD

1) have you ever stayed up more than 2 days in a row? if so, did you feel sick or weird?
I have, it tends to make me a lot more giggly but if I stop moving for very long but don't sleep I get a sort of inside itch and start to panic really badly. My best so far is 53hours.
2) would life be better without sleep?
No, there would be no total escape, and people need that.
3) do you like sleeping?
Absolutely adore it
4) if you didnt have to sleep, what would you do with those hours?
Procrastinate even more, probably spend it all watching films and making clothes
5) i notice that many of people(who arent insomniacs, people who prefer day over night, or have night jobs) who stay up frequently are procrastinators ........, so does the lack of sleep cause a habit of postponing things?
Yes, yes it does and I regret nothing I may have not done.
6) if you could reset your biological clock, what would be the ideal times for sleep?
About 3.30am until about 12pm
7) what do you think dreams are?
Dreams are just normal brain activity without any outside distraction. Consciously it's impossible to actually let your mind do what it wants because there's always soemthing around, even if it's just feeling how hard a chair is or wishing the person next to you wasn't smoking.
