Pretty sure we have one, I should check, Harper may have tried to get rid of it while he was hacking away at our system

Canada has used an independent body to set districts since the 1960s. In the 50s we literally looked at gerrymandering, thought "Oi, what do you think you're playing at here?", and proceeded to fix it. It hasn't been a problem since.

So yeah, that sort of shit would never get off the drawing board in Canada. >.>

Just wait for when 2018 elections start this time next year, there's going to be so much nonsense going on that I may just grab some popcorn and sit up on a skyscrapper to watch the world drown in "fake news" and "socialist agendas" and "Drumpf" comments.
If you thought the 2016 Presidential Elections were rough, I have a feeling next year is going to be even more nonsensical.

I fully expect the 2018 midterms to be just abject lunacy from start to finish. Not just in terms of partisan politics and screaming pundits but also in terms of Russian interference. The US has barely taken any steps to protect it's democratic process from another attack because admitting the first one took place would hurt the President's feelings. That is not an exaggeration by the way. Intelligence officials can't even bring up Russia in his daily briefings because he throws a hissy fit. He refuses to believe that there were any other factors in his glorious victory aside from how awesome he is. Thus US politics and internal strife is going to continue to be stoked by a foreign adversary because of the President's insecurities about his dick size.

There's no way Russia isn't gearing up to make sure the 2018 midterms are as bitter, chaotic and partisan as possible for Americans. The only thing standing in their way is Facebook's advertising department. So you're pretty much farked.

I was pretty confident we still had them but I watched Harper scrap so many things I wasn't 100% sure anymore.

Unfortunately, here in the US, that seems to be something that's decided on the state level. As in, by whichever party is in control of the state government. From what I understand, there are a few states that have independent bodies responsible, but most don't.

Say what you like about the Current Government at least our very vision of our country wasn't under hardcore social conservative attack like under Harper.
