This is a very strong start for 2018 already with already quite a few AOTY possible contenders.

The 4 already amazing shows/movie:

Cardcaptor Sakura clear card
Darling in the Franxx
Violet Evergarden
Godzilla planet of monsters

What I also really enjoyed so far:
Teasing master Takagi-san
Beatless

Last seasons still super strong contenders:
Boruto
Black Clover
AMB

It's not all I'm 2 watching though. I'm waiting for FUNimation's dubs to watch Touken ranbu hanamaru 2 and some others.

Have to admit I'm finding this season rather a drag. Unimpressed pretty much sums up how I feel, and not much overall to look forward to. Mostly it is a "make do" season, watching those animes that I like just enough to watch but have few for me of those truly excellent ones that makes you look forward to every episode.

Red — ★★★★
Orange — ★★★
Blue — ★★

3-Gatsu: Truly beautiful in so many ways. Shaft made such a superior product with this series. So glad the characters are progressing naturally (rather than rushed) both emotionally and socially. The viewer graciously grows along with them. Please let there be a season 3. (9/10)
25-sai no Joshikousei: Cheap fling for the meek and confused. Not much to elaborate on. (3/10)
After the Rain: An artistic story with several levels to ponder in a romance typically scorned. Not just different ideological levels, but different character maturity levels as well, which created POVs that sometimes diverged, sometimes synchronized. That weaving back and forth was actually quite beautiful, although appreciated more by mature viewers. The art style and soundtrack made it even better. (8/10)
Ancient Magus Bride: As characters, Chise and Elias were like holes that the author tried filling with story. And, as fanciful as the story was, it wasn't sufficient stuffing to develop the namesake characters. Borrowing from many myths and legends, the mystical setting and background did feel wondrous and the animation made it feel special. But although beautiful, initial high hopes for the anime faded. (8/10)
A Place Further than the Universe: A well-written story of friendship, courage and a journey of discovery. From character design to character development, the fresh artwork, score, directing and voice acting – it was all excellent. Many thanks for sharing that special journey. (9/10)
Beatless: Initially proposes a concept that was somewhat intriguing – manipulation of human emotions and behavior – but the story fails miserably when battling AI units themselves are egotistical. So many holes in that concept. OP song is a keeper, though. (4/10 so far, and falling)
B: The Beginning: The genre, scope and setting were all appealing – a noir/detective/supernatural mystery that had a nice hook to it. The characters were well-rounded and interesting, not just cut-and-paste. The music, animation and direction were all really good. One excellent highlight was the ED. Just the lack of closure to part of the story caused me to hold back on a higher rating. (8/10)
Bonobono: Still good fun with the trio of friends. Still whistling along with the ED song. (7/10)
Black Clover: Now that I've become accustomed to Asta's loudness (as it's part of his character), the show has been solid entertainment every week. The occasional eye-rollers and slow-basted pacing are smoothed out by fun characters, fun battles and the simple-but-enjoyable story. Winter's OP/ED were really good. (7/10)
Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card: Well-produced, but its nostalgic ‘specialness’ is lost on me. The elevator music and stuffiness add to the boring factor. (7/10 so far)
Citrus: Maybe the manga has a better story and more interesting characters, but as an anime it limped along in mediocrity. The drama felt very contrived. Adding characters to stir the plot just ended up muddling it instead. Overall, messy. (6/10)
ClassicaLoid 2: Another absurd* season of classic antics. (*Beet's description.) This group of voice actors, singers, song writers and musicians were all outstanding. Love the addition of Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Wagner – he even performed some of the songs himself. If there's a possibility of season 3, could Rachmaninoff be added to the line-up? *hint* Will miss this show. (7/10)
Dagashi Kashi 2: As so many others have mentioned, the shorter format works better – the writing remained tight and kept a heightened anticipation for the next episode. Hajime was a nice twist added to this treat, but more Hotaru was needed... and please don't friend-zone Saya. (7/10)
Dame x Prince Anime Caravan: The flamboyant character designs, over-the-top personalities, playful story, sweet music and irresistible voice acting (Vino! Vino!) – all of it has this Ohana-chan's stamp of approval ♥. Fluffy fun! (7/10)
Darling in the FranXX: A mysterious coming-of-age story (which is a mystery in itself – if there will be a coming of age) with all the emotions and drama of teenagers, friendship and young love. The characters are fun. The mecha designs are fun. The sexual innuendos are fun. The camera angles and choreography are exciting. (8/10 so far)
Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody: Flat-out boring. What was the premise again? MC gets sucked into the video game he was working on, then proceeds to test its capabilities using GM access while collecting a quest party. Lumberjacking and fishing would've been more entertaining. Oh wait, I may have been subjected to watch that too. At least I was rewarded with a really good ED from Wake Up, Girls. (5/10)
Devilman Crybaby: Unique. In a very good, very bold way. Artstyle, premise, story, score and the rappers are all excellent. Although not for the faint of heart, it is a rush worth experiencing. Of all the anime this season, only artwork for Devilman Crybaby hangs on my wall, capturing a feeling worth remembering. Plan to make the raps part of my collection, too. (9/10)
Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan: Foodie Fate is my favorite Fate. The relaxed and soft artstyle made for a relaxed and comfy atmosphere amongst habitual rivals. Emiya's cooking knowledge is impressive and easily followed. (8/10 so far)
Fate/Extra: Last Encore: The artistic interpretation intrigued me at first. Then as the weak storytelling progressed, I realized it was nothing more than another thinly veiled excuse for Saber T&A. (6/10)
Gakuen Babysitters: Adorable and touching story of siblings and friendships in the daycare setting. The little kiddos stole the show with their antics, meltdowns and honest love. Although, Kashima, Kamitani and Usaida were just as cute dealing with it all. Fresh SOL fun. (8/10)
Garo: Finishing Line: The series started out so good, sparkly and fresh. However, during the second cour it felt like it became tired of itself. There were still super awesome battle scenes with Luke, Gina and Sword with a great soundtrack. But there were major blemishes as well, namely very inconsistent quality and cringey story conclusion. Overall, a sincere thank you to MAPPA for all the bad-ass moments with Luke. (7/10)
gdMen: Like BFFs sitting around ad-libbing a homemade YouTube video, Light, Yomi and Alpha were a highlight of my week. Kudos to the VAs for making me feel so much at home. Was a really good laugh. (7/10)
Gin no Guardian 2: Enjoyable and fun gaming series. Still too short, though – more time is needed to move the story along. (7/10)
Grancrest Senki: As a fantasy novel, there’s be no doubt Grancrest would hold my interest. As an adaptation, however, there are a few questionable moments (e.g. “if you say so” moments). But even without edification, I find this show far more enjoyable than expected, attributing it to a ‘belief’ factor – especially surrounding MC Theo as the empathetic campaigner. Some scenes are truly beautiful, as is ASCA’s ED. (7/10 so far)
Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens: Exciting intrigue, action, assassins, baseball – can’t really ask for more. The chemistry between Lin and Banba sparks the interest, but the chemistry of the whole “team” brought it all together. The jazzy score gave it that extra edge. Of all the shows, this was my most anticipated each week. (9/10)
Hakumei to Mikochi: In a wonderful, tiny world introduced by two hard-working women, Hakumei and Mikochi shared meaningful trials of their daily lives. Not only were the characters well-developed, but the SOL was like a mini onsen for the soul. The animation/artstyle was sharp, fresh and colorful. (7/10)
Hakyuu Hoshin Engi: Someone not familiar with the religious and cultural setting may find this anime a bit confusing as many character actions assume that prior knowledge. Otherwise, it is an enjoyable show save its rushed pacing at the beginning. (6/10)
Hataraku Onii-san: Fun introduction to various part-time jobs. From the droll to the inspiring. VA Kentarou Tomita kept the pep at 100% while Takuya Mizoguchi kept him level-headed. Perfect pairing. Totally loved the ED featuring DearDream! ♥ (7/10)
Hitori no Shita The Outcast 2: An improvement over season 1. Although it mostly centers around a tournament atmosphere, it’s funny, engaging and well-structured. The ED is the gag of the season ♥. Quite entertaining. (7/10 so far)
Idolish7: Everything you'd want from an idol anime – great music, beautiful character designs, fluid and colorful animation, relationships woven into one intense and captivating story. And sparkles. Heartfelt sparkles. Too bad the last episodes air in May. (9/10 so far)
Ito Junji: Sometimes creepy, sometimes just plain weird, Ito Junji has a dark, sketchy texture absent of true horror which makes it amusingly quirky. Tying some of the stories together left a better impression. Love the OP. (5/10)
Kaijuu Girls 2nd Season: Action-packed girl power with awesome gear and colorful style. Just fun. (6/10)
Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san: The premise of non-stop teasing was a bit overwhelming at times, especially when the teasing became borderline bullying. Most of the interactions and reactions were sweet. But despite my occasional distaste of the show, the voice actors – Yuki Kaji and Rie Takahashi – made it absolutely worth watching. Their performances were outstanding. (7/10)
Killing Bites: Battle royale with buffed, cheesy characters. Fun for simple amusement. The sound effects are the best aspect of the anime. (5/10)
Kokkoku: Mysterious and other-worldly, yet down-to-earth with typical family problems, Kokkoku explores an intriguing spiritual theory. However, the story seemed to drag. The OP/ED were both great and the show had an overall hip feel. (7/10)
Märchen Mädchen: Basic all around with no specific aspect that sold me. I can see a good premise in there somewhere, but it's execution couldn't pull it out. Forgettable anime. (4/10)
Miira no Kaikata: Simply adorable. Reviewed the images/premise before the season started and thought it would just be another cutesie show. The story, characters and chemistry turned out to be just so dang lovable. Who knew Mii-kun and family would be the mandatory TLC *hug* each week. The ED is also a delight. Highly recommended to anyone seeking innocent fun. (8/10)
Mitcheri Neko: Cute cats doing cute things. Light, fluffy, funny (sometimes oddly so). (6/10)
Mitsuboshi Colors: Defenders of their town, Colors don't shy away from tough situations to keep the peace. Clever plots, covert operations, endless tasks that kept the humor flowing – these are cute girls doing fun things. Lots of all-out laughter. (8/10)
Nanatsu no Bitoku: Shorts on what NOT to look for in a wife. Lol. (4/10)
Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu: Yeah, another season! Yeah, more Ban! No review until the end. (8/10 so far)
Overlord II: Decidedly undecided until the season 3 announcement. The structure of O-II’s story was all over the place with bits and pieces introduced at odd intervals, making me question their relevance. Once I learned of the next season, however, I then equated the storyline to that of a massive fantasy novel – multiple plots scattered throughout the world, all seemingly unconnected until they merge toward the end. If season III doesn’t tie it all together, though, it will be a two season disappointment. The animation and sound quality, OP and ED (best of the season) are all outstanding. (7/10, until S3)
Overlord: Ple Ple Pleiades 2: Amusing side stories. Enjoyed how it emphasizes character quirks. (5/10)
Pop Team Epic: About as whacked and twisted as it gets. Doubling the episodes takes some getting used to, but once the first half is done it's like a being served the same dish from a different chef — different voice actors and altered scenes make comparisons fun. And so much talent piled into that dish! Loved it! Uniquely weird fun. (7/10)
Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san: An introduction to the world of ramen, each week brought renowned, unique bowls of tastiness with in-depth ingredient descriptions, historical backgrounds and prep instructions. As a story, however, it lacked severely with characters that weren't very likable. (5/10)
Ryuuou no Oshigoto!: The comedy in this SOL was rather weak, mostly playing off a harem situation with a wide age range. The story's strength showed during serious moments. Unfortunately, there weren't enough of those to keep the interest intact. The highlight of the series was Keika's struggle to remain in shogi. Still rooting for her. (6/10)
Sanrio Danshi: Popular high school guys who learn to appreciate and accept who they are, this sweet and well-produced anime provides hope to those of us who find it embarrassing to continue liking Sanrio characters after growing up. Not just Sanrio, but any childhood favorite. The story held an unexpected depth that resonated. The animation had unexpected eye pieces that entertained. Overall, it sparkled. (8/10)
Slow Start: Another one of those shows where high school girls have the intelligence of grade schoolers. Just not cute. (Even the girls of Mitsuboshi Colors are way more clever.) (4/10)
Spiritpact 2: The first 1:30 (OP) of the first episode had me in teary panic, and that built-up tension has maintained since. Beautiful OP/ED. (7/10 so far)
Takunomi: Four women exploring drinks after work. Kanpai! (5/10)
Time Bokan: Just love Bimajo! With Tsubiyakky and Suzukky, it was another non-stop crazy history lesson. Character stories developed more this season. Looking forward to the next one. (7/10)
Toji no Mike: The action is there, but not really. The story is there, but the pacing is way off. It's difficult to find interest in something that feels like a bumper car ride with a bunch of people you don't know. Hope the second cour improves. (5/10 so far)
Violet Evergarden: Beautiful. Intense. The search to understand the simple, yet so very complicated, bonds of love is intensely emotional. The character designs are excellent, as are the animation, music and historical setting. Even knowing full well before an episode starts it will likely cause tears, the ache afterward ends up just as heavy. (10/10)
Yamato 2199: Poignant. (9/10)
Yowamushi Pedal: Glory Line: Definitely has a different feel to the series without the seniors of last year. Halfway through, Glory Line is still seeking its new inspirational poster. Teamwork? Focus? Commitment? The dynamics within Sohoku's team is just as intense as those with other teams. Rather exciting. (7/10 so far, hoping for that teamwork to kick into high gear...)
Yuru Camp: Enjoying the outdoors by with chilling with friends is the good life. Backed by the ultimate relaxed soundtrack, Yuru Camp was casual, warm, fuzzy – like being wrapped in a blanket on a cold day. These girls and the beautiful locations they explored will be missed. (8/10)
Zoku Touken Ranbu Hanamaru: Sword boys having fun in their SOL lifestyle, much of the story revolves around introductions of new swords and daily tasks. Cute. (7/10)

Winter 2018 had a lot of screenshots worthy of wallpaper. Bright, sparkly moments. Sad, tender moments. Awesome, bad-ass moves during fights. Serene and gentle moments under moonlight. Probably a few hundred were captured. The one that stood out most to me was this one from Idolish7 episode 6.
