Hey guys. I found an interesting article by Wired about how the Mirai botnet came to be. You know, the one that started infecting IoT devices cause people are too lazy to change default passwords, and almost killed the internet last year? The one that the entire InfoSec industry was thinking it was the work of the Russians or Chinese because of it's level of sophistication?

Turns out the original authors were a trio of twenty-something weebs in Anchorage who were trying to DDoS Minecraft-servers. I found some of the game and anime references in this article interesting. Here's one particular quote which explains the origins of the botnet program's name:

I find it offensive that only the Russians and Chinese are known for good hackers. Good hackers can come from anywhere especially first world countries where people are bored and have nothing better to do. Just look at 4chan its the culmination of boredom and autism.

Just from the name it was obvious it was a Japanese or Weeb virus. They blame everything on the Russians or Chinese nowadays. Stub your toe PUTIN MOVED YOUR TABLE IN THE WAY. Get a virus from downloading porn from limewire RUSSIANS! Someone steals your credit card CHINESE HACKERS!!!! Code sophistication? All that means is the person has been programing for a while the Russians aren't any better than our programmers especially when were writing using the same language. Its some talking point by someone that knows nothing about programming.

Why can't these news agencies just say "we dont know who wrote this and the investigation is ongoing". Well I suppose that would interrupt their 24/7 spewing of fake news everywhere so people can't tell truth from reality.
