Mine for Favorites: Ancient Magus Bride, Akashic Record of (SP), Worldend, miss kobayashi's dragon maid, Kino
AMB ( I am not typing the title every time) just looks so great and the story keeps moving forward.
AR was just a standard but fun "Magic School" story but had some depth I was not expecting.
WorldEnd Looked good and flowed nicely from on episode to the next. Very sad but endearing.
MKDM I normally pass on slice of life but this one as fun. We could have skipped the little Boy story but fun anyway.
Kino is just well done from episode to episode. Killed me with the Nice Town.

Disappointing: Black Clover - Filler, filler, and even more filler. Why start 3 minutes of almost each episode with recap?

2017 was a great year in Amine and I am glad to come back after being gone a few years. Some good, some Bad, and some exceptionally TOO LOUD. (yes Asta, I mean you.) Here's looking forward to 2018!

I actually watched more old anime than new.

I was disappointed in Attack on Titan season 2. It was too short and left us with more questions than answers. Will they ever even explain that persecuted religious cult from the flashbacks?

I somewhat liked Gamers, but will it get a second season to actually progress the story? Doubtful.

Recovery of an MMO Junkie and Kino's Shitty Journey are two of the worst offenses to anime I've ever seen.

I think that season two was done like that on purpose to get people hyped for season three that is airing next year.

I rarely just flat out hate an anime, but I fall in love with various shows a lot for various reason.

Overall I feel 2017 was very front-loaded. Winter had some amazing shows and I can't wait for whats in store in just a couple of weeks.

That said my top 3 favs:

Made in Abyss

Demi-chan wa Kataritai

and of course New Game!!

Honorable mentions to Boku no Hero Academia S2, Owarimonogatari, and Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon

I won't say I hated these show, but they were definitely the biggest disappointments. Shows I was hyped/excited for that just let me down and either I dropped, stalled, or begrudgingly forced myself to finish:

Imouto sae Ireba Ii.... even if I hate the ending, I was a huge fan of Haganai. I had high hopes for this. And even though I REALLY like Kani, she is as pandering to base and simple tastes as it gets. I am just a bit dumbfounded that the same author of Haganai ended that book so rushed and in the way he did just so he could make this. Maybe it will get better as time goes on if it gets multiple season, and this last episode had some worth to it, bot overall the season was a giant mess and didn't really offer much at all. Nothing that I could see that warranted his rushed conclusion to Haganai.

Black Clover... I was truly looking for another fun fantasy shonen series in the vein of Seven Deadly Sins, but it's just plain mediocre. I'll probably give the dub a try when i can just binge all of S1.

Fate/Apocrypha... I am typically a shill for A-1 and typically defend their overall hit-or-miss pedigree since they give so many artists and stories a chance. However... even as a Fate fan, I was bored and done by ep. 9.

Dishonorable mentions go to Battle Girl High School, Re:Creators, and Juni Taisen

Dragonball Super... I still love dragonball, but I just haven't kept up with it. The pacing was really bad at the start and I didn't like how it started off basically re-telling Battle of the Gods. I do hear it's gotten a lot better though

Not that I'd want to defend Super, because, and let's be honest here, the show is hot garbage, but you're giving it shit for something that happened all the way back in 2015, which isn't really fair or appropriate in a thread about 2017. They've been doing original material since the start of 2016.

As for shows that I enjoyed: I'd like to at least mention Tsuki ga Kirei, which I personally thought was really enjoyable despite its lackluster visuals. I'm happy that it seems to have picked up some steam ever since it finished airing, considering that absolutely nobody was watching it at first.

Damn.. you're right. I didn't even think of that. So, that's my bad. I think I last left off around episode 82 or so. So I am like 40 episodes behind. I'll have to revise that. I was just going off what I know was airing this year.

My bad.

Bear in mind that everything below is just my personal opinion

Favorites

Urara Meirochou
My favorite anime of the year, and one of the most underrated anime of the past decade. With a cuteness factor rivaled only by GochiUsa and the uniquely intriguing setting of a labyrinthian town of soothsayers and fortune tellers, this show turned out to be something truly special. The lighthearted atmosphere mixed with the ever so slight hints of mystery and darkness blended into a CGDCT show to rival the greats. Unfortunately, due to availability, one would need to hire one of the mystical Uraras of Labyrinth Town just to find a way to watch this unknown masterpiece.

Kemono Friends
The sleeper hit of the year that came out of nowhere with adorably bad CG art and a whole lot of heart. Fans both West and East with talk ages about its world-building, direction, and surprising origins. All of those are great aspects of the show, but at its core, Kemono Friends is a show for all of those who never lost their inner child. A show for those who can appreciate the craftsmanship of a compelling post -apocalyptic world along with the simple friendship-focused adventure of a bunch of cute animal girls.

Hina-Logi from Luck and Logi
A show far better than it had any right being. An interesting take on CGDCT with a magical girl twist (though, I hardly hear anyone mention that) - filled with gorgeous art and endearing characters. Perhaps my lack of familiarity with Luck and Logic colors my view of the show, but on its own merits, it seemed to be an above average work.

Princess Principal
Steampunk, Victorian, Gothic spies? Need I say more?

Disappointments

Konohana Kitan
The image-bearer of this group because it was far from bad. No, this was a decent or even above average show with truly cute and heart-warming moments. The only reason it is a disappointment is because it had the misfortune of airing in the same year as Urara Meirochou, and thus despite all of its numerous merits, is just too similar to shake the feeling of being a bargain-bin version of that show.

Hinako Note
Not a bad show, but one that seemed to lack impact and memorability compared to others in its genre.

Bang Dream
A show the had its moments and wasn't without merit, but simply couldn't shake the feeling of being a bargain-bin version of K-On!

Urahara
A show with an amazing art style, and just style in general, but with little in the way of substance or even comprehensibility.

I liked many this year, and had a handful or so of dislikes.

Some highlights for me were:

Favorites:
Princess Principle (Now my favorite anime ever)
Made in Abyss (no shocks there)
The King's Avatar (A Chinese one that came out of no where this year)

Disappointments:
Gamers
Juni Taisen: Zodiac War
Love and Lies

I created a list of all the new shows I watched that premiered in 2017, with short thoughts and a rating.

I'd like to see others favorites and disappointments, or even comments or discussion on my list of thoughts.

Attack on Titan S2 was really good as well as My Hero Academia S2. So those two were my favorites.
As for disappointments, Black Clover and Juuni Taisen. BC just wasn't for me and Juuni Taisen felt very rushed.

2017 was a bumper year for good anime imo

Out of what I watched, I liked best

Houseki no Kuni
Princess Principal
Kakegurui
Konosuba 2
Kobayashi's Dragon Maid

Some of these shows I had no hype or expectations for, like Dragon Maid, Kakegurui, Houseki

Runners-up: Interviews with Demi-chans, Ancient Magus Bride, Recovery of an MMO Junkie

Meh:
ReCreators (second half dropped the ball on pacing, and delays killed my interest)
Blend-S (not enough scary faces)
Gabriel Drop Out (The memes/characters were better than the material for most episodes)

Biggest disappointments to me were

Little Witch Academy (Couldn't stand Akko, sorry)
Fate Apocrypha (didn't care, dropped it)
Kino's Journey
Dies Irae
