This person thinks I am anti-Semitic from this FB post (such a thread can put me on thin ice).

This is 1 of my FB friends. She is a liberal Jew and a voice actress. She is the wife of famed voice Richard Epcar.

My response to Toby: "Then again, they live near Hollywood which has a lot of Jews. The Jewish tradition of Hollywood dates back to when the Hollywood movie industry started back in 1910. Before that, the movie capital was Fort Leet, NJ." (I mean to spell "Leet" as "Lee").

My response to Nicolas: "Two notable reasons for the move to Hollywood was because of the climate and to escape the patent monopoly the various companies making up the Edison Trust held. In other words, the movie companies (notably, those what would become the Fox Film Corporation, Universal Pictures, and Paramount Pictures) were using the Trust's patents in movie equipment without a license. So, it is true that the Hollywood film industry was built in part on piracy. Ironic that the big studios lobby Congress for longer or stricter copyright terms when some of them started out using the public domain (namely, the Walt Disney Company) or via patent infringement."

I am putting the responses here because because I deleted them on the page. I am not about to re-confront a liberal who could block me.

OK, so my statement to Toby could have been not written at all or written as something like "Jewish celebrities have a strong history with the Hollywood area. That tradition dates back to the start of the Hollywood film industry which began in 1910. Before that, the movie capital was Fort Lee, NJ".

My posts to Toby and Nicolas were between 7:45PM-8:15PM Arizona time on 12/21/2017.

-Toby and Nicolas' above posts have since been deleted.

What is your take on this?

I can see where offense can be taken in your original comment, "So the Epcars are Jewish? Nice." Like you're just now finding out they are Jewish and the 'Nice' could make it seem to some like you have a problem with that. I don't have the slightest clue as to what exactly went through their heads when they replied to your comment, but I could see it raising eyebrows, especially of people who don't think too much before they speak.

I think your response was totally called for and reasonable, I think it gets unreasonable when your friend replies, "No it doesn't and you are anti-sematic." That's a little fucked up, that's too quick to judge and too quick to be negative. They're being unreasonable after you explained.

Thanks for seeing both sides. Perhaps those posts on Ellyn's thread were why Chris Ayres unfriended me.

that's thin skinned "warriors" for you, everything offends them when in fact it could be the truth, whereas some of those were facts and there is no way to show sarcasm online unless you state it as such. you're better off without them if they are offended to something as simple as that, I've heard far worse let alone seen. their loss, don't let them get you down and/or angry. since they live an angry and pathetic existence (sometimes) they like to drag people down to that level, don't let them. life goes on, if they find offense to things online I bet they are boring and lonely in real life.

The link to the image doesn't work, for me. Imgur says it was deleted, or never existed. Anyway; from what little I can read, it's safe to say that your "friend" looks for the bare-minimum qualifications of racism and, once found, relationships and conversations are essentially over. Regardless of the person's backstory, it was only a matter of time before you'd have stepped on a land mine. You got out of that mess relatively unscathed. Good for you.

I feel like some major context is missing. Why on earth would you go into a tangent about the history of Jews in Hollywood in a thread well-wishing the Hanukkah season to a pair of Jewish actors?

Ding Ding. If someone just randomly brought up Jewish history abruptly with acronyms like 'Jew' I'd think they were racist. How is this supposed to not come off poorly?

Alluding to the Jewish conspiracy in the middle of a Hanukkah post while describing your friends as "liberal Jews". Yeah, nothing wrong with that, bro.

No one gives a shit about your basic ass politics in a Facebook thread about Hanukkah.

OK, I tend to post without thinking. Also, my post to Toby was trying to indicate since the Jews really pioneered the Hollywood film industry in the 1910s, it makes sense the Epcars are Jewish. Now, I can see that would be insensitive, but anti-Semitic is stretching for me. Also, the "liberal Jew" was not added to any of those FB posts. That was added for this thread.

So you indicated that the Epcar's success in Hollywood had something to do with them being Jewish because Hollywood was founded by Jews. In a thread wishing them a happy Hanukkah. I'm starting to see why what you posted was taken as anti-Semitic.

qwueri, I guess was more of the spirit vs. the letter of what I wrote. However, anti-Semitic it was not intended to be. I wasn't trying to indicate they had success as Jews in Hollywood because Hollywood (the film industry version whereas it as a town/real estate was founded by a Methodist or Lutheran over 24 years before that). I was saying it makes sense they that are Jewish since there are a lot of Jews in Hollywood.

Doesn't matter if it was added to your posts or not. It's context that exposes your mentality. The only phrase you felt was important in describing your friend was "liberal Jew" - a virtue calling for people to who share your views to come into this topic and make you feel like you did nothing wrong without the effort of actually doing nothing wrong.

The first words you said to them when you were confronted by them was "my apologies" and then immediately go onto the topic that offended them. That's not how you apologize to people. That shit pisses people off.

Let's get real, if you are the type to go on to describe your friend as a "liberal Jew" then this probably isn't your first rodeo and god knows it isn't rare to have a conservative who decides to make their politics their identity on Facebook, so perhaps you should take this experience as a hint and stop mentally simplifying your friends into a digestible phrase and learn to appreciate the fucking nuances in life.

LakeJucas, I was describing for the purpose of this thread. Also, you are partially right. I said "She is a liberal Jew and a voice actress. She is the wife of famed voice Richard Epcar."

And dog, I am telling you, that context tells me that your Facebook post probably doesn't exist in a bubble beyond things that you may or may not have posted in the past.
