As the old season winds down, before the next season is fully ramped up, I try to push through one catalog title, or make progress on something I've started but got stalled on.

In Fall, I watched one or two episodes of Land of the Lustrous and found nothing appealing about it, so dropped it. However, I just listened to ANNCast's Best of 2017 and I'm thinking maybe I just was in a very wrong frame of mind when I watched those episodes -- 'cause it was spoken of with much praise.

So now I'm wondering if I should give it another try for my "between seasons" show.

Two older shows that were more likely to fill that slot until I listened to that podcast are FMA: Brotherhood (which I started, have mostly enjoyed, but had stalled while watching other things) and the original Kino's Journey (which I've never seen and discovered was on HIDIVE).

What's your opinion? You can just vote if you want, but I'd love to hear your thoughts and reasons. Please avoid stating major spoilers both for my sake and for the sake of others reading who may not have seen your recommended show.

If it had that much praise, I say try it once more. I always like to push myself past the third episode to see if an anime will get better. It usually does. If you still feel the same way you did the last time, then go for FMA: Brotherhood or Kino's Journey.

I finished LOTL, but really didn't get much satisfaction from it. It was visually interesting, but I didn't empathize with any of the characters enough to care about them.

FMAB is a good ride. I've watched that twice, so I vote there.

I started the old Kino, but haven't finished it yet myself, it's on my stalled list, too. Something more interesting always seems to come up, or I'm just not in the right mood for it.

Old Kino because old series are in desperate need of love and "rediscovery" by the youngsters. Kino will tie into the new series, whereas Brotherhood is already well loved, you already saw it, and there's nothing new with the property.

While you're at it CardCaptor Sakura is a good old one and I think I heard somewhere there's to be new CCS?

Kino's Journey since it sounds like you're sort of intrigued by that one. I think it's a classic, and it's episodic so there's no need to watch it all at once.

Or other: Galaxy Express 999, which is similar to Kino's Journey in some ways.

Kino's Journey was a complete masterpiece (in my eyes, at least) and well worth watching.

Land of the Lustrous took about 4-5 episodes to hook me but when it did I was truly hooked. It's very underrated and definitely worth watching.

I've tried FMA a few times and never really gotten into it but I still want to retry it sometime soon.

I've recently re-started Blessing of the Campanella and Rosario and Vampire, I'd suggest either of them as possibilities, also.

Voted for FMA, didnt care for it personally but if you enjoyed it might as well finish what you started... alternatively you could rewatch the monogatari series as you rated it highly in anticipation of Zoku Owarimonogatari https://myanimelist.net/anime/36999/Zoku_Owarimonogatari

I ended picking Land of the Lustrous for a binge over the last few days. I'm not rapturous about it, but I like it so far (up through episode 8). It did take until the very end of episode 3 or 4 to hook me. (The main reason I didn't give it that chance initially was because I had so many other things keeping me busy). I particularly like the soundtrack.

I still have plans for original Kino's Journey. I'd watched the first episode a few weeks ago. I might put more of a dent in it this weekend; or I might just wait until HIDIVE comes to Roku.

And FMAB, well, that's probably going to be accomplished via an episode now and then as it has been thus far.

As to rewatching Monogatari -- that won't be happening. I very, very rarely rewatch even things I like a lot, and when I've got so many new and new-to-me things to choose from it's even less likely I'll end up in a mood where I'd choose a rewatch over something new.
