I have read that a Facebook friend list is limited to 5000 people (including requests). Sure, there might be hacks to grow that number. I was searching through FB's ToS and Policies pages, I didn't see mention a 5000-friend limit. Granted that either page might not mention all the important fine print. However, where does say it on FB site say you are limited to 5000 friends? One could argue to common sense that if it doesn't specify the ToS doesn't specify the amount of friends you can have, then that 5000 figure shouldn't apply.

It doesn't need to say there is a limit. If a limit exists, it's to stop abuse or prevent inefficiency with their code.

ToS has nothing to do with how the site functions - it's about how you interact with the site.

Can you not just change your personal account into a Facebook Page still?
I did this back when I hit the 5000 limit (four universities, teaching at two universities, and several jobs did this) and it converted all of my friends into "fans" of that page.
The only difference is that Facebook will ask for proof of identity (to ensure you are who you claim to be).

Cydoemus, this could be done. However, I am talking about the friend cap here.

I don't think TOS apply to questions like this. That isn't their purpose.

if memory stands, once you reached 5000 friends you had the option to turn your page over to a following page instead of just friends, however there came the follow but not friend option some time back, which probably expanded that number. the limit was put into place so people would be people and not bots, and that you couldn't just have an unlimited number like the social giant myspace once had. they had to be different somewhere, but they are literally all the same in the end.

Anyone know of any good hacks that could expand that limit? Look, I don't care if goes against FB's ToS.

5000 is far far beyond the monkey sphere and I imagine the reason is logistical. It's not a matter of terms of service.

Start posting politics on Facebook and that should clear up the friends list real quick

Like I said, the only hack is to convert your personal profile into a "Facebook Page".
Facebook simply doesn't allow for any more than 5,000 friends.
Rationally, it isn't really a cap you're going to hit easily unless you're friend farming or have a lot of experience with meeting people who geuinely want to be in contact with you all the time.
Keep in mind that the number is for all connections (Groups, Friends, and Pages you're following).
Time to purge or trim up your friends list if you don't want to convert your profile to a Page.

No, I don't have 5000 friends (less than 40 on FB). An unfriended FB person does and I have been nagging him on at least letting me follow him to see the latest posts. Why did he unfriend me? AFAIK, it was because 2 of his other FB friends blocked because I said something that, to them, was anti-Semitic (Remember that recent thread?). The guy in question was the FB friend I interacted the most with.

You can't hack someone else's page to make them add you as a friend. Have you ever considered that maybe this person just doesn't want to be your friend? If you really need to see what they are posting that badly, you might have a problem because that sounds like stalking...
