Hey, I'm Sam
I'm 25 and Im in the military, which you can imagine isnt full of people that watch anime and read manga haha! I on the other hand LOVE it, who else out there has to hide it?! surely its not just me! pretty annoying aswell I've watched so many awesome shows and read so many awesome manga and always want to talk about them but no one seems to share my interest! haha

So come on people who else hides it? What walk of life do you come from?

P.S. I know I shouldnt be ashamed of it, like most characters should of shown my to be true to myself etc but well you know, real lifes different haha.

you'd be surprised how many people in the military like such things, things are more global than what they once were. I never knew there were so many military bronies (MLP) until I started talking around the base. but I'm not the type of person who cares what a person thinks of me, I know what I think of myself. you could sit around and listen to conversations that tends to help, not to mention don't be afraid to jump into a conversation as well when you hear key things spark in. I don't hide in the closet and I'm honest, very dangerous things I suppose. it's amazing what people talk about when they don't think others are listening/paying attention, especially the younger crowds. but, on a side note, there's always the net. without the net, I believe we wouldn't be as global as we are today, possibly could but not as quick to connect (no pun). best of luck finding friends with like minds in your area and on you're base, I'm certain there are.

I'm sort of in the same boat, Sam. So you're not alone.

At 33 and working at a banking call center while living in the suburbs, where everyone else is your typical soccer mom and Duck Dynasty loving dad. I used to be more open in my early 20s when I was at an art school town in Georgia.. But here it doesn't work and since I moved to MD, its very hard to find like minds. For me, I rely on the internet and anime conventions where I can be myself. I used to wear a lot of anime shirts but I toned it down. Problem is that I cant tone down my car with the anime bumper stickers since I've had it for 10 years and cant get a new one.

Its a real fine line when you want to be open and make friends but at the same time, you don't want people to see you as weird. It happens everywhere.

I used to be, then I got older and completely stopped caring what others thing about my hobbies.
Figured if they're somebody worth keeping around they will at least accept my hobbies even if they don't personally like them.

I only got into anime in my early 20s I might of had a different answer for you if I started watching it earlier, since I had more judgmental people to deal with back in middle and high school.

I used to be that way, but I get way too excited shopping at Hot Topic or Spencers now, so it's not really something I care enough to hide, lol. It's not something I necessarily put out there either I guess, but I don't really do that anyway for much of my hobbies. I like Crunchyroll and other specific animes or mangas on my personal Facebook, so I mean people could see or not see, haha. I just don't post specific pictures or statuses about my love for anime or manga.

I guess subconsciously I am more open about it on my non-real life social media accounts (e.g. like Twitter), but that's more because I have connected with people who enjoy anime, manga, video games, and stuff online... so it's more of a common topic of convo.

I don't hide it, I just don't feel any need to bring it up most of the time.

I used to but when i started working i accidentally told someone about a show i was looking forward to and they just sort of went 'oh that sounds cool'. After that I've only ever brought it up a couple of times but everyone i know is a farmer so they cant really hold a conversation unless its about corn and pigs.

I don't hide it. I go to the gym with my Naruto headband like a weeb. I constantly reread Hero Academia manga in public. Own a couple of anime related stuff. You would be surprised at how people actually like anime/manga. People constantly start talking to me about it if they see me reading a manga. Mostly Dragonball and Naruto fans

You can't really expect people to give that much of a shit about your hobbies. Realistically, if they're gonna be constantly giving you shit for it, then you shouldn't be talking to those people to begin with.

But no, I'm not a closet weeb. I'm a weeb, but I'm aware that weebs are often degenerate, so I don't just bring it up in conversation for no reason, if someone wants to ask me about something they can.
