In-terms of being able to fly solo, Kirito from Sword Art Online. I wish I can delve into this more, but I only watched the first two episodes of Sword Art Online, so I can only base my idea of what Kirito is like on what other people said about him and SAO as a whole.

As for groups, Shiroe from Log Horizon. He chose a support class built around buffs and debuffs, and uses it masterfully even when other players wouldn't. This, in-turn, let's him do what he always did best since his time with the Debauchery Tea Party: Unite other players under his leadership, and come up with strategic plans to ensure the group's success.

And yet we almost always see him working with others in the anime. And developing a harem. Somehow.

I'll vote for Cutey Honey for solo action.

For team play, I'd love to give a good word for Miria from Claymore, since that's her specialty. Unfortunately, the anime doesn't show off that talent of hers nearly as much as the manga. So instead I'll pick Sailor Mercury.
