They have now released a Blu-Ray version of Outlaw Star (combination of Sunrise & Funimation). It is my general impression there isn't all that big a difference between most DVD and Blu-Ray versions of modern day anime, but the Blu-Ray version of Outlaw Star will really knock your socks off with how good it is. The original version was ....somewhat muddy, but the vibrancy of the colors in this one really makes things pop out. It is like looking at the original hand-drawn stills. The opening and end music is great and the ending art especially looks like they dropped in a high detail still from a manga.

If you don't know the story line, just be aware that it is one of the greats from the early 2000's. It is loosely described as space cowboys with cat girls with elf ears, samurai, pistols with magic bullets, space ships with propellers and grappler arms for wrestling other space ships The heroes have a ship with a cute navigation unit going after the galactic leyline (is that like One Piece sailing the Grand Line after pirates treasure?) pursued by the space forces, outlaws, pirates, and alien races.

What's not to like about this? You owe it to yourself to see this anime.

I'm in love with how good the picture is with the bluray. I had the Collectors Edition DVDs, and I watched them before selling them to a friend so i could get the Collectors Edition BluRay set. The Bluray set released the day after my birthday so the Blurays were a small late bday present for me. So glad I got it.

I remember outlaw star when it used to be on Toonatic! I used to stay up and watch it at about 10:00.

Those caster shells that could quite literally file black holes, they were eipc. ... and the intro. the intro was amazing

I'm gonna hold out until there's another Collectors edition Blu-Ray for this, Trigun and Samurai Champloo. Already managed to snag the Cowboy Bebop Blu-ray Limited Collectors edition a few years back.
