So i was having a pretty good day today, feeling pretty good and optimistic after being a bit blue around christmas, when suddenly around 45 minutes ago something happened that i can only describe as feeling something like this:

In the face of this sudden rush of weird negative emotions, i flipped to a youtube compilation video of Komari Koshigaya from Non Non Biyori and now have the biggest goofy grin etched across my face. I love NNB because it is what i would describe as "comfort food anime." It makes me laugh and soothes my mind when i feel particularly stressed or down. I would attribute this to the tone of the series (particularly its depiction of growing up in a rural environment like i did [obviously not exactly the same NNB growing up in the heartland on America but some amusing similarities]) and the hilarious interactions between the characters. another series that fills a similar role in my viewing habits is K-on, a very "therapeutic" series for me personally (all hail best girl ritsu ). So, is there any series you turn to when you feel particularly stressed or blue? if so, why that series?

The Devil is a part timer was hilarious and Baka to Test gives me happy memories , the first cosplay group project my group did and I was Hideyoshi , everybody learned how make the school pants

But my comfort anime changes from the season , so lately it was Blend S and Konohana Kitan , it made me light and fluffy inside

This is the majority of what I watch actually. I pick different ones for different occasions.

After a soul-crushing day at work, I relax with something generic like Kinmoza. Shows like that reinvigorate my spirit with their bubbly, uplifting, and oftentimes comedic atmosphere.

The next level up is when I'm feeling melancholic, anxious about something, or nostalgically depressed. For that I go to more potent stuff like Gochiusa which tends to wash the worries away with cuteness. Generally, like the case above, but more potent. Gochiusa in particular is effective for me because it's probably the cutest show I've seen for me personally.

The final case is when I feel like everything I do is terrible, I'm worthless, and I just want to stop existing. For that I need the most potent stuff, which for me is Aria. That is the show I go to when I'm so down that I feel like I need to reorient my life. The show is not only uplifting, but it also teaches you how to develop a worldview that thinks positively and appreciate the mundane miracles that occur around you on a daily basis. But I don't even put Aria on the same level as other anime. It's practically a religion to me (not literally of course).

Maybe my dependence on these "comfort shows" is unhealthy, but considering that I don't drink or smoke or anything like that, I feel like I could have far worse vices.

Mahoujin Guru Guru. I actually saved this one for my toughest day of the week as a 'decompress'.

I'm catching up on Sakura Quest right now, and it feels like just about every episode in season 2 has left me with a smile. Sweetness and Lightning and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid seem like easy good feels shows as well.

All of the above. Toradora does the trick for me as well.

While I don't have any anime in particular that I watch to de-stress, I do find that going to YouTube and watching videos of various anime characters doing the ojou-sama laugh (the high-pitched 'ohoho' some characters are prone to) to be oddly satisfying. Rarely can I watch those videos and not end up smiling.

Hidamari Sketch.

I used to look forward to HS because after a crapton of anime, HS was a palette cleanse. When I was stressed, it was a relaxing series, It was like chicken soup when feeling sick.

The title made me think of Gourmet Girl Graffiti, which, oddly, is about comfort foods, and reminds me a lot of Hidamari Sketch in tone...

Oh, A Centaur's Life. It's comforting in a weird way, but the girls are just getting by in their strange world.

Konosuba is always good when I am down. (E X P LO S I O N !!!)
Starblazers is good to take me back to being a teen.
Hellsing Ultimate is good when I just want things wiped away.

If I need a quick hit of something to make me feel better, nothing does that like Konosuba. Doesn't matter what episode I pull up or where I land in it; something is going to happen within seconds that will make me smile.

It really is a treasure and we need more seasons.

I have a dedicated playlist on YouTube called "Antidepressants", primarily consisting of like 30 openings from moe and gag shows like Is the order a rabbit and Nichijou, this is a pretty effective method. Or I recommend watching the first episode of Garzy's wing, the pinnacle of Japanese animation.

I'd actually recommend something like Overlord or Death Note. Self Pity + unadulterated power fantasy is a powerful combination for feeling good. The first 5 episodes or so of Linebarrels of Iron are pretty good too (the main character gets put in his place after that, so I don't recommend watching past there).
