Alright so i know the fate series was originally a 18+ visual novel. But i’m not interested at all in reading the visual novel, but it could help me sleep faster tho. Anyway, i want to see the Fate series without having to read the boring Visual novel. Soo what’s the best order to watch the whole series ? (Movies included)

Edit : Oh rip, i added him instead of it.

Fate/Zero is a sequel and assumes you've seen Fate/stay night.

It's very simple: watch them in the order they were released.

Fate/Stay Night is a visual novel/computer game, which has been adapted into several anime series and films. These have then spawned a prequel series Fate/Zero and a number of other series set in alternate universes but employing similar characters or settings.

The original visual novel had three main routes through the story; Fate, Unlimited Blade Works and Heavens Feel. They all involve the same characters in the same time period but have different outcomes based on the choices you make for the main character.

The original 2006 anime series mainly follows the Fate route but mixes in elements of the other two as well.

Unlimited Blade Works was later adapted into a film and then adapted again into a series. I'd advise watching the series over the film as they had to cut out a lot of the story to squeeze it into the film.

Heavens Feel is being adapted into a series of films. I'm not sure if they have been released in Japan but I haven't seen them over here yet.

Fate/Zero is set before the events of Fate/Stay Night but assumes you are somewhat familiar with the original story.

I won't recommend an order in which to view them as there are plenty of arguments about that already. Each of these four stories overlap with the others so there will be some spoiling of the plot of the other series no matter which one you start with.

All other series starting with Fate/ are set in alternate universes and can be watched independently of the four mentioned above.

Unfortunately, there isn't any one "right" way, since several of the stories spoil each other to an extent, so a lot of people end up making recommendations based on personal preference. Zero, for example, spoils a fair amount of SN, particularly the Heaven's Feel route. While pretty much any and all of the F/SN routes spoil the ending of Zero. So which one someone recommends first generally depends on which one they care less about spoiling.

I can give a few pointers though. If you're going to watch the 2006 anime at all, watch it first as the Ufotable productions make it look shitty by comparison. Don't bother with Deen's UBW movie, as the full series UFOtable adapted is way better. The F/SN works are best watched in the order they were available for viewing in the VN, which would be Fate -> UBW -> HF. Zero is best watched either before or after you watch any/all of SN. Apocrypha, Extra, and Prisma are all spinoffs so you can probably watch them at any point, but are best watched after Zero and SN, especially Prisma.

Wait wait wait, my brain is blowing up right now.

So, for the series i can just watch the order of when they were released, but some say the DEEN one is horrible, so i won’t watch it then. Sooo what’s next ?

And what about the other Fate/jvjrjfjejfj stuff?

I fixed it. If you mess up a title you can just report your post to moderators and ask for a fix. Sometimes we notice a small error like that and will fix it even if not asked, but we don't always notice.

Thanks for this. I've watched UBW and was wondering where to go from there. I'll see if I can find the HF one.

Uuuuunfortunately, it's not available yet. It's being released as a series of movies. And while the first one is out of theaters, it hasn't been put distributed for sale yet. It should be very soon though.

Honestly, the ideal way to watch F/SN would be to just read the visual novel, but most people don't have that kind of time or interest.

Oh...I can wait. I've waited longer for whole series to finish first before touching them.

Yep. I think, in general, people who say the 2006 series is horrible are the ones who read the visual novel and weren't at all happy with how it was adapted. The anime is not that bad, 4 out of 5 stars. Watchable and better than 80% of anything else. Like the original FMA. Totally worth watching, even if it's not as good as the followup.

As someone else mentioned, the other series are set in separate worlds so you can watch them (or not) in any order. Fate/kaleid liner is fun, if you like magical girls and yuri, but it probably helps to know who the characters are.

It was okay, at least at the time of it's release. Unfortunately, it has some issues. Namely, it does a poor job characterizing the main character, it's attempt to add elements from other routes was clumsily done and includes a major spoiler relevant to Heaven's Feel (though Zero spoils this too). Also, it's art, animation, etc. also haven't aged very well in the last 10 years, and if you've already seen any of UFOtable's stuff, the difference is painfully apparent. That's why I previously recommended that you watch it before seeing any of UFOtable's stuff, assuming you plan to watch it at all.

So yeah, it's not unwatchable or anything, but it does have significant issues.

Shakes hand, it's complicated.

The visual FSN was made with the 3 routes, Fate, UBW, Heaven's Feel. The Fate/Zero novel was made as a prequel with the intention that you watched the others in mind. However the anime for Zero explains the magic system and all that for new comers anyway but the ending is abstract so it may help if you watch the other anime first. But F/Z is more critically acclaimed then the any of the FSN anime and many people feel watching what they see as a worse series (FSN) first spoils the ending for a superior anime.

But other people feel that the ending for anime Zero doesn't make much sense unless you've watched the other anime first so it doesn't really matter, or that watching the other series first will make the ending of Zero make a bit more sense/feel like less of a let down if you've watched the other series first, or that the Fate route was made as the first way to experience the universe and so that's the best start. Or that the Fate route anime was a fine introduction (other routes were combined to an extent into it) and most fans dislike because it was different from the VN without thinking about whether it was actually good or bad on it's own.Or that both the FSN visual novel and the various anime adaptations are trash and that Zero is the only worthwhile thing in the franchise so you're wasting you're time watching anything else.

TL:DR It's a subjective cluster fuck. Start wherever, no matter where you start you'll still have questions unless you read the slow af VN which repeats info dumps about 100 times.

It's basically all alt universes besides Zero and the FSN routes. Carnival Phantasm is a phantasm is a comedy one. PRISMA☆ILLYA is one where everyone really young and all the girls are magical girls, good if you're fine with eechi of young looking kids. Fate/Apocrypha is an alt war where's multiple teams of servants and imo absolutely shit, based on complete shit based on shit source material. Fate/Prototype a short based on the original manuscript where King Arthur was a boy and the MC was a girl. Also Garden of Sinners takes place in the same universe but has almost none of the same characters so there's that. Also mandatory don't seek out the Tsukihime anime because it doesn't exist (joke about how bad it is). Extra Last Encore is an alt universe where most of the magic dried so they have to have a Holy Grail War on the moon or something. Will probably be one of best in the franchise.
