That was completely underwhelming. The doll bit at the end was intriguing and had real potential but it was over before it explored anything cool or interesting. I don't know if the segment about Souichi was supposed to be creepy or scary or funny but it just didn't hit on being much of anything except what felt like a boring waste of 20 minutes before the more interesting part of the episode. And the visual elements of the show didn't really work out that well either. The style was mostly there but the quality wasn't. Even though I'm not really a fan of Kakegurui, just imagine if this show had been animated by that team.

I hate to say it but if this doesn't pick up in an episode or two I can see this being an early drop.

OP juxtaposed to the content – just twisted.

So I see that Souichi is one of those people with a bad habit of biting their nails. He should probably work on that.

Anyway, I thought Souichi was a hoot. He's haughty, condescending, and an overall terrible person, but he always ends up the fool, and it's just fun to watch. I don't know whether or not we're supposed to see more of him later, but I wouldn't complain if we did.

Not sure what to make of the doll part besides the fact that one of the few things everyone across the world can agree on is that dolls are just plain creepy.

I'm a huge fan of Junji Ito and his work, and I'm surprised they didn't pick one of his more popular works for the first episode. Though I still really enjoyed it and thought it was a great way to ease into the rest of his work.
The op is great, I love how well they fit the anime art style, Souichi was portrayed excellently as the weirdo he is, and the doll segment at the end was very great as well.
For those who say they felt like it was more of a comedy, most of Souichi's chapters are lighthearted compared to what you'll see more of - like the doll segment.
I'm so excited to see what the rest of the Collection has in store and I can't wait for the next episode!

I'm not familiar with the source material, but I felt this was an underwhelming first episode. The Souichi story felt like a dark comedy to me, which is fine, but Souichi is so damn annoying.
The doll story was so short and began so abruptly with an absurd narrative conceit it felt just more or less like a "punchline" (for lack of a better word) : 'this is why we burn the dolls'

I wonder if any of the standalone stories from Uzumaki will be animated

Episode 2

The first part is about a guy that can't get the image of scary model he saw. He's part of a film crew that won a competition and wants to film another film. They hire a high school girl and the model who happen to send in letters wanting to star in the film. While filming they pay attention to the cute girl, so the model eats her and kills one of the film crew and maybe Iwasaki?
The second part has to do with a woman that fears death and a man that has dreams that last long. The dreams effect the man until he dissolves into crystals. Seeing how their was something in the man the doctor uses this crystals on the girl so that she would sleep long and stop fearing death.

The second episode was far better. The model was creepy as hell and seeing her turn into a monster made this even better. The second part was more calm and i still enjoyed it. I'll check another episode.

This was a big improvement over the previous episode. The "model" was genuinely disturbing to look at and there was a real sense of danger. The second half with the long dreams felt like something out of the Twilight Zone, especially with the doctor's decision to make the girl have a never ending dream to get over her fear of death.

Well this episode was surely less funny and more spooky. The level isn't something you are going to lose sleep over, but eh I got a few minor goosebumps here and there. Entertaining episode, looking forward to next week.

Hey what do you know.... A lot of Junji Ito's male protagonist in many of his stories do tend to look like him.

My dreams seem so long lately.

While the model was very disturbing in the first part, the second part was intrigued me more. Having dreams (or I suppose nightmare would be a better term) last days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries, and beyond? I can't fathom as to what that would do to the human mind. I'm a little surprised (and disturbed that I even had this thought) that the guy didn't consider suicide. Curious if he still held to hope for a cure or he looked forward to something in his dreams...

Episode 2 is a much better episode compared to the previous.

And for a sec there, thought the second half won't be given justice, the way they've done with Episode 1's "Hell o' Dollies". Glad I'm wrong. XD

Woah-oah, here she comes; She's a man-eater!

Hall and Oates aside, I didn't really care much for the model story. I felt it didn't have much of a punchline or anything, it was just "here's a scary lady, oh and she eats people too."

I thought the "Long Dream" story was much more interesting. As someone else mention, it was very Twilight Zone.

Definitely better than Episode 1 but it's still not quite sitting where I hoped it would. It just feels pretty clunky and predictable. There were some potentially neat ways they could have gone with things but, nope, it was just exactly what it said on the tin.
