Mini Review: Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Episode 16 - Sakura and Meiling's Friend

Full review: https://the-sakura-samurai.deviantart.com/art/Anime-Review-Cardcaptor-Sakura-Clear-Card-Ep-16-742563558

Well the title of this episode seems a bit confusing I mean I get why it's that as it's referring to Meiling's friendship with Sakura but it's almost like it's saying, Sakura and Sakura...I don't know it's something that I've noticed.

Anyways the first half of the episode I guess I was slightly underwhelmed by it just a bit but I guess I must of over hyped it in a way seeing how SWING is an elemental card (which that's a weird clear card name for the Earth card by the way) it would be slightly difficult to secure and...kind of was, I mean Sakura used the SIEGE card to make sure that the SWING card doesn't escape but the rest is just Sakura securing the card when it decides to attack the house and FLIGHT just acted on it's own and Sakura was able to secure it. It's wasn't bad but I guess I would of like the secures to be more puzzle solving or at the very least use more cards than just simply walking up to it and securing it like say Episode 10, as much as that's my least favorite episode so far at the very least it had a clever way to secure the card. But I'm just thinking too much and everyone alright even though that no one questions how the damage is oddly specific for a earthquake. At least Akiho question something on how Kaito knows about Sakura's Dad even though that she didn't tell him before as we finally reveal his powers which is controlling time whether it's just erasing her memories or actually moving back. One things for sure, time isn't an easy power to use as established in a lot of ways and the fact that he could go back and rewritten time without any problems is terrifying to say the least especially the fact that either his target is Sakura's Dad or what's in the Library. Whatever the case...this is getting heavy.

Now because the last episode lacked a Clear Card we get two here which is the STRUGGLE card which is the FIGHT card but with TWIN's weakness for some reason but regardless both Sakura and Meiling battled the card and wow the animation here is pretty great with fast moments and powerful impacts from both sides as you could feel it. It's a lot of fun to watch and it has a bit more effort put into capturing this than the SWING card. The rest of the episodes outside of Kero worrying about how Tomoyo would react when she hears that he slept on the job is Meiling and Sakura just talking it out in what seem to be a deep conversation between the two about making people happy and working too hard to make other people happy would make you unhappy as both Sakura and Syaoran are indeed worried about each other in a way and Meiling helped both of them out just by being their friend and this is way I love Meiling so much as she has evolved so well being a fun brat to someone that helps them out in some way even if she doesn't have any magical powers of her own and I'm glad that she played some kind of role as her character arc ended in the original series but here they didn't just throw in Meiling just for fan service but she did plays a bit part with both characters. She's still a fun character though and I'll always remember her for that but I love the direction they took with Meiling and even having a cherry on top with Meiling asking Sakura if she could call her Sakura from now one fully accepting her as her friend...I felt thing when that happened.

Overall it's still a great episode even though that the beginning part wasn't what I was expecting but regardless I'm curious now to see how they would play this out. One things for sure...I miss Meiling already

Episode 17

Rika finally makes her appearance to give Sakura that picture book, but unfortunately Sakura forgot to bring her apron as the class is baking a roll cake in home ec. The last time that happened, the Sweet card added way too much sugar to the cake. This time, the cakes go bouncing around as they combine to form one huge piece of cake to eat Sakura, but again it's no problem for Sakura. Appear was contained and captured just like that. And at the end of the day, Akiho is providing Kaito with a cake seeing that it was Kaito that had been making them. It's another typical card capturing adventure, but now things are starting to move forward in a big way now that Sakura is close to catching on who that cloaked figure is, and it's Kaito alright.

Episode 17

Since the start of Clear Card it was mention by Sakura and co that Rika decide to attend another school, so it's great to finally see her in person. Even though it was short it was nice seeing that she hasn't changed since we last saw her. When it comes to this weeks episode it had its good moments like the beginning when Sakura finally figured out who the cloak figure is but soon forgot. Than seeing Sakura, Tomoyo and Akiho make roll cakes and of course the card capture. This weeks card is the Appear Card and it has some writing that Sakura can barely understand. The best part has to be when Kaito and Momo talk about new cards which means they are behind the Clear Cards. It's pretty much clear that they want Sakura to make copies of the Sakura Cards since they are similar to them. The reason for it has to be with the book Akiho has and maybe they need them to fight the monster Sakura has been dreaming about?

It talked! About time. I always had a funny feeling about that toy rabbit.

At this pace, I expect Sakura to finally catch that cloaked figure soon. The food gimmicks this week was quite unusual

This week's card seems pretty harmless... aaaand now it turned into a giant cake monster. Of course.

Momo is alive. Surely no one saw that one coming, right? So now the mystery is what are Kaito and Momo trying to accomplish by having Sakura collect the Clear Cards?

Nice how they dressed Rika exactly like Fuu Hououji. Even her hairstyle was similar.

Yeah, well CCS seems to have dropped that story arc for political correctness reasons. But I tell you most of human history had relationship age gaps like that and it's debatable if all individuals by default are abused in that scenario, I'm sure that's what CLAMP was implying in the original series about that nuance, but now they can't do that no more.

But now that episode 17 has dropped, I kinda of see Kaito in a new light, it's like something about Akiho's feelings toward Kaito, seem to spark fear in him. I found that very interesting, because at the surface the behavior seems very innocent, crushes are pretty innocent things.

But it makes me think Akiho can read the book, because she is a physical manifestation of the book's magic which is inherently related to time, and Kaito is using his magic to suppress the book, but it keeps moving forward. As the book progresses forward, Akiho begins to react with the book in tandem, and magical events occur, and Kaito uses magic to synchronize when Akiho falls asleep or trance-like state to when Sakura is asleep at night.

Kaito seems to think Akiho is in danger, and I think he wants Sakura to be emotionally-socially close to Akiho, so that Sakura can be motivated to save her at a great sacrifice of her own...potentially this is where Touya, and Syaoran come in. And perhaps where Sakura's original Star Wand and Sakura cards, then merge with Tsubasa's and xxxHolic's plot point of why Yuko is in possession of CCS's Star Wand/Staff; with references that Sakura from that dimension can still use the cards.

Mini Review: Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Episode 17 - Sakura and the Crazy Sweet

Full review: https://the-sakura-samurai.deviantart.com/art/Anime-Review-Cardcaptor-Sakura-Clear-Card-Ep-17-743623870

Yep, still miss Meiling :(

But I'm sure we'll see here again when the show gets a second season. But as one leaves for a bit, another appears with Rika as it's finally nice to see her again after a long absent. It's short and it's questionable if we will see her again for the next 5 episodes but at least it seems that she is more mature than ever before overcoming her shyness. So I guess Akiho must of took Rika's shyness it seems but oh well. At least this leads to more foreshadowing as they been building up having Sakura to read to the kids at the hospital as if there's one thing that Clear Card loves to do, it's foreshadowing. Also this leads to a great moment where Sakura gives out the biggest hoe as she runs to her house and to the school without taking a breath which was pretty funny.

Also what this show loves to do is to be part cook show as well as we get some roll cakes which I won't lie, I really want to go out and cook something and to try making some of these. Sure the budget for that part seem to be cut a bit but it's nice regardless. That's when the APPEAR card well appears and takes over the cake rolls. So Sakura uses the SNOOZE card to make everyone in the school fall asleep and it's a good thing that everyone wasn't doing anything dangerous otherwise it could be pretty bad. Still the roll cakes merge together to make it looks like something I'll see in my nightmares for a while but after using the SPIRAL card she secure it and the card itself looks cute.

There's also what happens with Kaito and Momo who properly introduce itself as they are building something and when Akiho tells Kaito that she's happy that Kaito's happy it seems like there's a change of heart or something it's hard to tell but the key to have the event to happen it requires Sakura to secure cards. So what that is we'll see in the future but I think this episodes pretty great

PS Sorry if my mini review isn't as great, busy with other stuff at the moment ^^;

Episode 18

Alice in Wonderland makes its appearance again, first with Sakura wearing an Alice-inspired costume to capture a card that had shrunk her down to size, then Sakura being trapped in the world of the book due to Eriol's magic, and now Akiho is reading that book that Sakura gave her. The next card Sakura captures is another elemental card, and like the Gale and Aqua, it is also in the form of a bird while wearing a cute outfit that's the closest thing to her TRC outfit that she has worn in this series. Water is supposed to have the type advantage over fire, but not when that bird's flames are supercharged like that. So instead, Sakura takes flight, to capture Blaze from the sky after Syaoran uses some wind magic. In the meantime, Toya and Yukito have caught on and are aware that something's amiss with Sakura. That was another thrilling card-capturing adventure there, all while Akiho is becoming ever so close as a friend.

Wow, hearing about the very first Clow Card in this series bought me back memories all over again.

These elemental cards for the season are intense, especially this Blaze card. Glad to see Sakura and her friends dealing with it well and I have to say, her new outfits looks fabulous.

Episode 18

Looks like the books Alice in Wonderland is being a big part of the story as we have seen it before in the regular CS and now with the new book Akiho got and the one she owns. We also find out the name of the book Akiho owns Alice in Clockland and that it will play a big part later. For this weeks card capture Sakura with help of Syaoran captures the Blaze card, but not before a power struggle between the Aqua and Blaze card. We also see Syaoran use wind magic which sort of resembles the power of The Windy. At the end Toya and Yukito talk and seems Toya's powers have return and that he will use them when the time is right. Looks like everyone is waiting for something big to happen while Sakura is the one left in the dark. We are down to the final 4 episodes will we find out what Kaito is hiding, or will it end on a cliffhanger?

Sakura's costume this week was on fire! Tomoyo's taste in costumes is always great.

So now we've got a wind, water, and a fire card. It probably won't be long until an earth card appears and something huge happens. We're getting close to the finale now.
