I have just finished annual Godzilla movie marathon where I watch all the Godzilla movies I can and I noticed something

They never once mention the emperor of japan

Not once

Is this a cultural thing or a law?

Huh. I, as a fellow Godzilla fan who has n numerous occasions binged the series, see what you're are saying. Perhaps its because none of the filmmakers simply bothered to include him in the script?

The Emeperor is like the Queen in England, isn't he? No real authority or decision making, just kind of a figurehead for the public to latch onto? Still, I guess it is a bit weird that that never happens especially with all the shit they've pulled in the movies.

Historically culturally the Emperor as also seen as semi-divine even though in practice politically/historically he is often sidelined. I think it has to do with being respectful for the position that has a "holy" aspect. You don't want to piss off the gods or those who have a spiritual feeling with that side of society's culture. It's hard to explain from a western point of view.

in Shin Godzilla he was hinted at but that's about it. guess since the PM are mostly what does all the work in Japan and the emperor is less involved than he use to be. but, in some cases it could be disrespectful or could face trouble, after all, the emperor is rarely filmed regardless, let alone much mentioned. just how Japan is. since the emperor is suppose to be linked to the great gods themselves, and you never want to anger the gods.
