Man, this episode was absolutely majestic. They hit a lot of things that I enjoy watching in anime within a 12 minute span!!!! I can't explain how satisfied I was watching this episode. Without a doubt, a episode I will remember in the Dagashi Kashi series. Especially, the scenes after with him wandering around. Things are without a doubt not the same. There were so many scenes this episode that beautifully described the characters. Just. 10/10 standing ovation. Even though the studio has a lesser quality in terms of aesthetics this season, they put in good work and I felt that passion.

Great episode , but something always bugs me , even from season 1 . What is up with everyone's eyes ? is it something in the water that gives all those kiddos cross-eyes ? Maybe there's a chemical or nuclear plant nearby them...

That was quite an unexpected yet wonderful episode. I particularly loved at how the episode concluded with the dusk sequence. Not only was it symbolic (in literature, dusk or near sunset usually represents the beginning of the end of a cycle; here it could represent the ending day of summer, or more importantly, ending of warm days with Hotaru - though I hope only temporarily), but it was aesthetically striking too:

I 100% "get" the attraction people have with Hotaru. Especially after this episode. But, I can't help but feel Saya is getting cheated for a lack of better words.

I'll leave it at that before I say more to piss anyone off.

But, I will say that there is no way in hell I would miss an opportunity to see Saya in a yukata.

It's very truthful and easy for people to overlook those things or people they see daily for those they see infrequently or are exotic to them.

I'm in pretty much the same boat, especially with the way they've "enhanced" Hotaru in the new art style. The story so far really isn't doing Saya any favours either, especially compared to S1 where both Hotaru and Saya had their moments to shine.

Saya is, and always will be, the best girl in the series. Hotaru is a nice runner up though. But for the current episode I was immediately struck by two things. 1) Hotaru actually won something. 2) The way she told Kokonutsu to hold onto the winning popsicle stick. Okay three things. 3) When Hotaru used sayonara instead of the more common forms of saying good bye.

I wasn’t really into this season but i kept up with it, then it goes and gets all sentimental and now I’m really intrested. Saya is best girl in my opinion, but this episode was great.

Apparently, the Hotaru character has a special metabolism where all of the candy she eats goes straight to her jugs. Too bad they didn't have the first season of this available on CR, so a person could gain some context. Starting with the second season makes any new viewer feel like a bit of a fish out of the water.

DP0083 - You can catch the sub on Hulu if you got a free trial left or I think Funi is dub only.

Getting ditched and left with your brother to watch fireworks is peak side chick material.

I fail to understand why bro just let Hotaru leave tho. She’s got next to no local knowledge and outside of the firework area, which we don’t know how close to it they even got, they were just cruising through fields and stuff. Not a very responsible decision lol. She made it to the preview so at least she didn’t get lost/abducted.

Unfortunately, Hulu is not available in Canada and I generally don't watch dubs for any foreign film or TV series. I'm not against them. I just find that most of them lose something in translation. The dub for "Cowboy Bebop" was probably one of the few that I thought captured a lot of the feel from the original language.

It was kind of strange that he let her wander off like that, but it is also apparent that she is the type of character that just randomly shows up or leaves as she feels.

Man this season is getting rather deep already (isn't this kind of how the first season ended?) What a sad lonely summer with no Hotaru., I thought this was going to be the same fun silly series it started out as but the last two episodes yeesh.

Dang, it really does feel a bit different without Hotaru being there.

She'll probably come back someday but the mood just feels different.

Got to love the gag about the name of the candy and Saya thinks he was telling her to get a move on cog.

A nice throw back to those old Nut n Honey cereal commercial. Also of a Chris Rock show skit about a cereal which name I can't repeat.

Episode 5

Pretty much episodes 2-4 lead up to the beginning of episode 1 and it has been three months since Hotaru left. Things have gotten bad for the Dagashi shop that they are having financial trouble. Kokonotsu and You decide to fix the shop but You gets hurt and ends up in the hospital. So now it's up to Kokonotsu to clean the shop but lucky for him Saya and Tou show up. The three of them clean the shop and restore it to what it was, but Kokonotsu believes the store is not enough. He than thinks of taking advantage of there being no connivence store but didn't notice that there is one across his shop. Seeing from the preview i can already guess that the owner of the shop is none other than Hotaru's dad. Maybe thats the reason why she left?
