Episode 5

And now we know why the shop ended up becoming a dump as the opening of a convenience store visible from the front door just opened. There's no need for a dagashi shop when the convenience store can sell everything and more. It doesn't help that Hotaru is no longer a customer and Yo fractured his toe, and the store has become run down. Tough times are just getting started and it's going to take a miracle to bring the shop back.

Episode 6

That was pretty amusing for Kokonotsu to think that the convenience store is fake, but nope it's real and it means the dagashi shop is as good as gone. And the manager of the place Yutaka is a much different person inside the store than outside. But this convenience store is doing one thing wrong, and it is that Yutaka is putting some premium sweets there, and not the cheap stuff that most people who come to the convenience store are typically after. So Yutaka comes and asks Kokonotsu to work at the convenience store and has an offer he couldn't possibly refuse. That Yutaka guy sure does have a lot of screws loose, but above all he just doesn't understand the culture of this town that it's no wonder that business didn't hit the ground running.

Episode 6

With the grand opening of a convenience store in his town Kokonotsu, Saya and To go check out the competition. They are greeted by the manger Yutaka who pretty much acts the same way as Hotaru but acts differently inside the store. Yutaka shows how the convenience store is so much better because it carries anything people would want but Kokonotsu points out one flaw. The pricey premium sweets that people would pass on as they prefer something cheap. Yutaka seeing Kokonotsu as a rival he tries to recruit him to his staff even going as far as using dirty magazines. But Kokonotsu holds his ground thinking of Hotaru and how he plans to touch the real things. Man Kokonotsu would be dead if Saya over heard that lol. Anyways things end with a new character being shown at the end. Next week she will have a proper introduction and lets see how long until Hotaru comes back?

Even with the episode times cut in half the series can still tell a story, albeit exaggerated and over the top a la Kill la Kill. The show is still engaging and funny.

Episode 7

Here comes Hajime, and she's a new worker at the dagashi shop, and the oddballs just keep on coming. First, it's the convenience store manager being so over-the-top, and now here's a woman who is a dropout of a prestigious college, and was recently fired from the convenience store because of the nickname she got from that guy. Those crazy people just keep on coming.

It's about time Hajime entered this show.

I like her personality already (reminds me a little bit of Hotaru)

Episode 7

This week we are finally introduced to Hajime Owari who goes to the Dagashi shop to ask for work. Turns out she got fired from the convenience store for showing up late and the manger gave her the nickname four eyes something she wasn't fond of. Getting a nickname like four eyes who wouldn't be. Hajime is not really good at interviews as she has been turned down a lot and only hope to make ends meat is to be hired by Kokonotsu. Things go well for her as she convinces Kokonotsu to let her stay and any pay she would receive will go to rent. Even though Hotaru is missing the candy of the week is back with Chocoball being this weeks candy. Even though Hajime used the candy as a distraction Kokonotsu took the bait and went with the flow. In the end Kokonotsu is late for school and Hajime sees him off as Saya watches in the background. Looks like someone has a lot of explains to do haha.

Wow, never realized Felt from Re:Zero and Alice from Food Wars were the same VA. Had to double check that one. As for the intro episode she's no Hotaru, but seems to be able to manage on her own without the need for Hotaru. It's still surprising they took a big gamble and took out the main star of the show. Hajime has a decent amount of shock factor, but let's be honest, she seems like a Hotaru clone in a lot of ways. Watching Saaya suffer makes things worth it and eventually this may force things to change. Odd that they decided to create a shifting point around now considering the shorter episodes. Somehow they managed to get the story moving more than any part of S1 though.

Knowing the show Hotaru will just come back and give an explanation like getting a root canal or something, though I'm hoping they actually deliver on something more interesting. I foresee domestic violence for Coconuts...
