Funny how the Tonkotsu and Udons are like real corporate baseball/softball teams – they tend to be competitors on and off the field. Sometimes "business dealings" push the limits of good sportsmanship.

Lin tried to pinch hit, but when his struggles failed all he could think of was how much trouble he would be in with Banba. Not the fear of pain or death, but disappointment from Banba. I'm loving the quality of their chemistry. And I'm starting to realize just how big Banba's shoes are to fill.

Episode 7

There's a cyberterrorist known as Macro Hard on the loose, and Enokida is there to snuff him out. Meanwhile, Misaki's class play got cancelled after a big fuss was raised over a certain girl not playing the lead heroine. As it turns out, Enokida comes from a rich family and Yagi has come looking for his master. As it turns out, Enokida's father is the politician Kazuo Matsuda, and he ordered Yagi to kill his son, but instead Yagi sent him to Hakata to live with acquaintances where he became a computer wiz and dyed his hair. It turns out the hacker is Kuroiwa, who has already been killed. That was quite cruel what Enokida had to go through, but clearly he's better suited to work in technology than in politics. Anyway, that was just the setup for something much bigger as now, Enokida has a bounty on his head.

That awkward moment when Enokida saw Yagi was HILARIOUS ngl it left me laughing for a couple of minutes. Yagi is an awesome butler. I also loved that scene with the height contest between Enokida and Lin.
I didn't expect to get much on Enokida's past or the fact that he's from a rich family; I just kinda expected him to be from Hakata and lived there his whole life for some reason. That being said, it's still really nice to see him getting some of the spotlight. Looking forward to next week's episode!

The title for episode 7 has been gnawing at me for the past few days. "Leadoff Hitter" is late in the season to be relevant to actual episode order. And featuring the first batter in Hakata Tonkotsu's lineup seems too simplistic for this series. Which makes me wonder if what Enokida did 8 years ago set current events in motion.

Episode 8

Pretty clever escape by Enokida infecting his own machine so that he can hack without having to be in front of his machine. Enokida also falls for a trick play himself as Yamato was ordered to swipe his wallet and ends up getting captured by Irasawa and beaten to a pulp in a cage. Except that was actually Lin disguised as Enokida who was kidnapped and with the footage captured that those pursuers get arrested. Quite a brilliant plan that was all going according to script.

As it turns out, Enokida's death was faked under orders from his father, not something Yagi decided to do. That was a great episode, and it's nice to see that Enokida's father cares more about him than initially thought as he wanted his son to live free, and that's exactly what he's doing. The last episode gave the wrong impression that his father wanted to get rid of him, but in truth Enokida, or rather Chihiro Matsuda, just hated politics and wanted to take up technology. Still, that last line there meant that he still has some ill-will. Anyway, I knew something was going down with the title of Trick Play, and boy did it work the way it was supposed to.

So far, this anime is my sleeper hit of the season (though it's a close call with A Place further than the Universe and the season isn't quite over yet).
Never have I imagined a baseball anime to turn out so gritty, or keep me in suspense so completely.

This episode was really good. Loved the wholesome ending where the whole "family" was out eating.

Enokida's birthday message to his dad I'm in stitches Actually that whole scene with everyone calling him young master (and his reaction) was hilarious!
