Could you move to the same system that YouTube eventually moved to for rating videos? YouTube felt like people either a) didn't vote, b) voted 1/5, or c) voted 5/5, so they switched to Like/Dislike and show the ratio between the two.

For example, if 500 people watch a video and you see that there are 100 likes and 50 dislikes if those people who liked voted 5 stars and the dislikes voted 1 star, you would have (100 * 5) + (50 * 1) = 550/150 = 3.7/5.0, you would think a show is above average, but actually most people voted 3/5 by not voting meaning it was average (neutral vote). You can't really see how many people liked or disliked something.

If you look at your statistics, it is probably extremely likely that people either didn't vote, voted 1/5, 3/5, or 5/5. So, I think the site would benefit from a better statistic.

1. View Count
2. Like Count
3. Dislike Count
4. Like/Dislike Ratio Converted to a Percentage

Using my scenario as the example (these would be the statistics):

1. 500
2. 100
3. 50
4. 67% (which is found by 100 likes versus 50 dislikes, of 150 votes, 100 are likes which is 67%)

This way, users can still see, hey, this video is liked more than disliked, but a lot of people didn't even vote, so can I trust this above average score or not?

I know I don't vote on videos much unless it is really good or really bad here, but on YouTube I almost always vote one way or the other.

or, just watch it and decide for yourself. I am the first to admit, someone raves about something, I typically am probably not going to like it. so, base it on your viewing stats not some generated feature that can be rigged. with youtube anyone can create more accounts and vote more and more. not to mention that flawed method can trigger even more trouble that it's worth. I do like the how many times it's been viewed idea, but to change the rating system, of which I don't trust anyways, it's sort of pointless. I find what CR has in place now to be rather ideal and helpful, it's not perfect, no rating system is, but it's far better than the failed method of youtube. post the video someone on a site it sucks up a view (youtube), so millions is false. it should base the ratings (youtube) on logged in votes, not click bait that some sites like to do.

that's probably why CR uses rating system, you don't have to rate, but you can. besides, you get a tiny reward when you do rate, but still, CR has a better ratio overall, it's less flawed because it's based on logged in users not just anyone.

There are a lot of new people in anime community nowadays and they would certainly see benefit of having a good rating system. And also of being able to sort anime by rating.

I've never looked rating here on CR, nor do I ever rate episodes/shows. If anything I'd look at MyAnimeList, but even then, it's rare I check the rating on there before watching a show. I go based on description and genres, decide based on that.
