A scared mentally disturbed woman calls the cops asking for help. Claiming she is being stalked she barricades herself in a room with a gun. When asked if she had a gun by the cops when they arrive she lies. They force their way into her room to check on her well-being but find her in there alone and with the gun in her hand. I'm sure the typical yelling ensues which probably sets the paranoid woman into more of a frenzy, an expected response from someone with psychosis. The cops show restraint according to the article by trying to wrestle the gun away from her but couldn't do it so they shoot her. They did everything they could short of turning around and leaving the situation to a crisis negotiator or something. It's a tragedy all around and this one I'll blame on whichever law allowed this mentally ill woman to purchase a firearm. If the illness manifested itself after she bought the gun then this is just a sad and tragic series of events.

meanwhile, the NRA still think it's perfectly acceptable for mentally unstable individuals to purchase and own guns.
judging from your description, it seems like she suffered from schizophrenia.

i like how they always start with the names calling.. typical of the people who like to yap about peace and tolerance eh?

i guess when you can't do shit about something or can't change people's mind.. it's best to start with insults and then threats of violence after? it's hilarious when these people are considering themselves as the educated/advocate of the peace.etc..

Look up HIPPA LAW and Mental Illnesses --- then think how you can create a law without breaking the existing laws

This is like those people who keep claiming "common sense" regarding the no fly list = no buy ? it's common sense? ???

Do you people even know who can be on the no fly list ? unpaid student loans or child supports, etc.. can get you on the no flight list.. among other things

mental illness? anorexia and bulimia can be considered mental illness.. etc.. patients' medical records-- try to call in and ask about someone else's medical records and see....

I don't see solutions for these problems.. all i see is some wanna be pacifists who think they can save the world by point fingers, throwing around insults and making accusations with every shooting...

i guess we can not expect much from keyboard waaarriors with nothing to do but trying to make the world a better place by typing it out online...

go out and do something about it? get signatures for some petition and get law pass or something?

Action speaks louder than words.. if you think you can change it... do it..

in all honesty, they are suppose to do background checks so that certain folks don't get these guns. but the article did go on about Texas, sometimes I wonder if you fog a mirror you get a gun... but, sadly, I feel cops need more training, such as psychology training, to not drink red bull (an energy drink) before the shift or before a moment, they shouldn't be drinking anything with caffeine because of the stress and hype of a situation. and, above all else they should be paid more. however, I also feel they should have backed off, they need to stop being cowboys, that time has come and gone. there's a slight possibility we can blame the government as to why she wasn't on her "happy pills" but this was not a situation for extreme measures.

my opinion when it comes to extreme measures: a bomber, a hostage situation, thug numbers... not this lone case of mental illness gone unchecked by the great country of existence (USA is possibly a bad country when it comes to the mentally ill and not diagnosing it properly or at all). maybe that's another thing which should be a requirement, students, somewhere in their life, must do some sort of mental illness test, a few times in their lifetime since mental illness can change and/or lay dormant... some ideas which will go unheard I'm sure.

Ok.

Lie to a cop about not having a gun, I guess you understand enough to lie. Then I guess you'll understand enough when you get shot weeeeeee!

You can tell she's not black because they didn't shoot her on sight
