I feel like there's a bit of cockiness from a lot of 90's/80's kids when it comes to people from younger generations. The whole "if youre young then youre not allowed to like anything from older generations" mentality that a lot of people have is a bit aggravating.

A similar experience is with people who will shun anyone who doesn't know every damn thing about a certain game/band/book/anime/etc.

Some of it is undeserved. In many cases you describe it is...

Other times, it's just someone with more experience hearing the stupid things out of youngster's mouth that they said at that age, and it makes us cringe to think we thought those same things.

Age and experience seems to do strange things to you.

Meanwhile, my 14 nephew seems to enjoy anime that I even missed as a kid... I respect that, and as I start to learn his tastes and that he has a bit more broader knowledge than I thought, I may start watching different series with him. (he never saw My bride is a Mermaid, till i introduced him to it, but at the same time I've been kinda keeping him in the kiddie pool... Thinking it's time to up the ante and show him some more adult stuff).

So in some ways, it's also just trying to figure out where you stand yourself in the matter, and how much you've "leveled up"....

If I like something, It can be from any time line.

Im 25, does that mean I don't like anything being introduced to us now? No of course not, there are things that I like being introduced in the modern world of 2018, I'ts just really hard to find It doesn't matter what age you are, If you like something that isn't considered normal by others standards, who cares. Are you honestly going to follow the heard. Let those who cannot accept greatness stay forever down, everybody has their own enjoyment, who are they to judge? You don't know what people actually like until you really talk to them.

I can like something, but does that mean I know every single detail down to the last spec of dust. No, who cares. Am I getting paid for it?

It's like being displayed as that one guy who is the biggest die hard fan, Ok you go right on ahead and do that, maybe down the road you will be compensated for it, because without people like them; something really can't reach that point of popularity. I can say I'm a die hard Fan for certain things, and you will clearly see that, but at the end of the day the only obsession I have is what I can create, and what I support is what is deseving of it, deserving of my time and money, that is how the world works.

What I like and what I enjoy will eventually one day reach the lives of people young and old. Just because we are labled as NAIVE, that doesn't mean anything about what we truly accept into our lives.

Well as an "older' person i have always found it pretty awesome when someone young likes the stuff i liked way back when, in a way it makes me feel like my choices in music / books / anime etc was decent if they are still liked by younger generations, as far as i am concerned you young folk can keep on enjoying the older stuff all you want and don't worry what a few grumpy old people say.

Is that really a thing? I'm usually delighted when someone knows what old ass manga or anime I'm referencing, let alone actively watching/reading it. That goes ditto for anything else.

I've never heard of people taking that kind of a stance honestly. That's just plain dumb. you can like what you want regardless of age. well, maybe if you are like 6 and want to watch hentai you can't but details details :P
as for the last part of your post that's just good old fashioned elitism. it's everywhere on the internet so its just best to ignore it, or laugh at it if you find it amusing as i do

Just think of it as people going out of their way to let you know they're not worth the effort.
Me, I don't care how old people are, I only care about how old they act.
Outside of the law age means little for my social interactions. I've met 40 year olds acting like they're 12 and I've met 16 year olds acting like they're 25. While we have to grow old we don't have to grow up.

It's why interactions with people on the net are interesting to me, unless you ask (and get an honest answer) you can only go by how people act to peg their age if that's something you want to do in the first place.
Turns out, as far as the online acquaintances I know more about go, I tend to associate with people who are older than me and am generally pegged as 10 years older than I am.

Some people in niche communities like to stake out their turf and form their own little bubbles, and feel threatened when anyone 'new' shows up that might upset their pre-established order. Pay those people no mind, they seldom have much influence outside their own little spheres.

there are also those who will attack others who don't know things or know enough, or even call it something else than they do. but that's how people are, not everyone but some people are. thus why I call it like I want to and don't care what people consider of it. also liking what I like regardless of time frame it came from.

Discrimination based on age is becoming more archaic, true, but it still is to be expected from some populations, and in some roles it remains largely undisputed as well as statutory, e.g. you must be 35 years of age or older to become President of the United States.

In the spirit of matters like gender as I said the practice of ageism is seeming to be phasing out and less of a factor along with other, more relevant discriptors such as education level, achievements, and IQ.
